Aunt Marion was full of love and fun! She had so much energy and accomplished many things in her life. I loved her so much and named my eldest daughter after her. Wan

To the Abbitt family,
Today I was looking for a old friend just maybe to get in contact with him and say hello and the only thing that I could find was the passing of his dear mother. Over 30 years ago I was invited by my friend to spend a weekend with his family there in Williamsburg and I meet his sister, father and mother. The mother of course bought me right in and treated as if I was a loving son of her own. I remember the dinner of qual and not being sure if I could eat them baby birds. Just remeber that weekend reminds me of the wonderful people that I have met and know in my life. This is 2010 but it is a lasting memory of Mrs. Abbitt and the dogs and flowers and of course Jimmy.

Always,
Grady

My Grandmother lit up the world with her vibrant personality. I have never known anyone as glamorous, confident, talented and classy as Marion Abbitt and feel so blessed to have spent my summers in her company where there was never a dull moment. My mother, Sally, was right when she said that the world is a different place without Mimi in it. We will all miss her but always feel her presence, especially in the garden.

I miss the "old Guard!" and I mean that as a compliment! When I say old guard, I am referring to the CW escorts from the late 1960s,1970s,and1980s. My mom Patti Fox was one of them and in fact introduced me to Marion as well as so many others. Those ladies, and gentlemen made me want to work at CW. Marion was a lovely lady who knew a great deal, and never lacked enthusiasm when sharing her info with others. She was also a lot of fun. I can still see those intelligent vibrantly blue eyes looking at me as if what ever I was saying at the moment was the most important thing that Marion had ever heard. She was well respected and will always be remembered as a gracious lady. My love to her entire family, we are all so lucky to have known her. I will always "see" these folks whenever I walk down Duke of Gloucester Street.

I only met Mrs. Abbitt one time. I loved talking with her and she seemed to have a real zest for life. I remember thinking how wonderful it was to see the pride she must of had with the way she had done her hair and make-up. We should all be so proud of our appearance well into our 80"s. I didn't know Marion very well, but judging by how much I respect and care for her Daughter Ann, Grandson Doug, and Granddaughter Susan and how they are handling their lives, I can only assume that she must have been a spectacular lady! Roger and I extend our loving sympathies to Marion's entire family.

I remember Marion Abbitt through her presesntations in the Hennage Auditorium of the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum in Colonial Williamsburg. She would entertain while teaching how to make holiday decorations each Christmas. I affectionately called the shows "slinging boxwood," since you had to sweep the stage after she was done. Marion always told great stories with her demonstrations - I remember "you have to do this on the dining room table and it will take several days - so your husband has to take you out to dinner."
She was a lady of great style and a wonderful presenter to work with. She is missed.

My wife, Norma, and I wish to extend our most sincere condolences to the Abbitt family. I feel blessed that I had the opportunity of knowing Marion during the time I lived in Williamsburg (Class of 1963, James Blair High School and acolyte at Bruton Parish Church).

I will tell the stories of my grandmother, Mimi, to my children so they can pass them down as well. I am so thankful for all of the shared memories because growing up we lived close to her and my grandfather, Pa (Andrew White) and spent our weekends, holidays, special occasions, and vacations together. Some of favorite times were sitting around the river house listening to the stories of Mimi, Pa, and all of their equally loquacious, talented, and hilarious children. To me, she was so bold, intelligent, entertaining, talented, beautiful, and glamorous. She always said whatever was on her mind, had a gift for the lost art of conversation, and didn't believe in denying herself the finer things (in a good way!). I can't imagine visiting Virginia without a trip to Berkeley Lane. What a wonderful life she had and how lucky I was to be in it! I have attached one of my favorite photos of Marion.

There are many words to describe Marion Abbitt, but mine was "Mommy Abbitt". Growing up across the street from the Abbitt family was one of the most terrific things of my life. Her strength, her voice, her talent and her yard are all things etched in my mind. Williamsburg will not be the same without her. My thoughts are with the entire family.

All the members of the Bridger Family Association send their condolences to the Abbitt family and especially to "our" beloved Merry.

I never had the opportunity to meet Merry's Mother but have heard so many wonderful things about her and regret I did not get to know her.

The family of Marian Lee Elizabeth Rose Abbitt can take solice in the fact they gave their Mother the best care there was to give. Knowing that may help with their loss.

Much love and sympathy to all our cousins.

Family of the Late Mrs. Abbitt,
I am so deeply moved by my memories of Mrs. Abbitt. I met her only a few months ago and was
so impressed by her. She was such a sweet lady who tried to teach me about the various plants. She gave me some clippings for my garden which are growing strong. They will serve as a reminder of this beautiful woman. I will never forget her.
You all must have many wonderful memories of mother. I hope and pray that they will encourage your heart in the times ahead.
Be blessed.

Flowers will bloom and carpet her way to the heavens. I met Mrs. Abbitt several years ago when I visited Bruton Parish Church and she was there to shepherd me along. She was a very lovely and kind lady. My thoughts and prayers are with her family today.
