PATTON, Margaret Lewis Hines, age 86, of Birmingham, Ala., died on August 14, 2008, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Richmond, Va., on May 15, 1922, the eldest child of the marriage of Elwood Raeford Hines and Clarissa Jane Lewis. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Richmond and attended Ferrum College in Ferrum, Va. On July 15, 1945, she was married to 2nd Lt. Samuel Lee Patton, U. S. Army Air Corps, of Montgomery, Ala., and they lived for many years in Decatur, Ala. They resided for three years in Okmulgee, Okla., before returning to Alabama in 2006 to live in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Louise Hines Tate; two half-sisters, Roella Hines Owen and Mildred Hines Straub; and a half-brother, Norwood Hines. She is survived by her husband, Samuel Lee Patton; her sister, Faye Hines Kilpatrick of Crozier, Va.; her brother, Edwin Thomas Hines (Carolyn) of Richmond, Va.; her daughter, Martha Jane Patton (Lynn Daniel) of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons, Stephen McMath Patton (Elaine) of Ketchikan, Ark., Samuel Lee Patton, Jr. (Panda) of Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren: AFC Jonathan Patton Daniel, U. S. Air Force, and William Burton Daniel of Birmingham, Ala.; Leigh Anastasia Patton Woodward (Mark), Daniel McMath Patton, and Stephanie Rebecca Patton of Ketchikan, Ark.; Wilson Tindol Patton of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and SPC Jay Colin Patton, U.S. Army, of Tulsa, Okla.; two great- grandsons, Owen Matthew Woodward and Liam Daniel Woodward of Ketchikan, Ark.; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and other kin. Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1024 12th Street South, Birmingham, Ala. on August 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Alabama National Cemetery at Montevallo, Ala., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association (P.O. Box 8462, Chicago, IL 60680-8462 or www.alz.org) or a favorite charity.
