Evelyn A. "Ebbie" Cronin

CRONIN, Evelyn A. "Ebbie", born October 28, 1922 in Petersburg, passed away August 30, 2008 in Richmond. She was the daughter of Rose Levitt Cohen and Arthur Cohen, of Petersburg. Ebbie was a member of Temple Brith Achim and worked at the Globe Department Store and Thalhimer's, all in Petersburg. She attended Madison College and was a tour guide for historic Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Fox and Francis Cronin. Survivors include her daughter, Marion Fox Frankel and her husband, Neal, of Harrisonburg; son, Stephen "Steve" Fox of Chesterfield County; four grandchildren, Jacqueline Fox and Joseph Fox, of Chesterfield, Shana Frankel of Harrisonburg and Nathan Frankel of San Francisco, Calif.; and her great-granddaughter, Star Frankel of Harrisonburg. During her stay at Beth Sholom Home, she participated in many activities including painting, ceramics and writing poetry. She was an officer of the resident council and assisted the rabbi. Ebbie was a lifelong learner and had a special interest in learning about varied religious denominations and current events. She enjoyed decorating her room at Beth Sholom Home with vibrant and colorful wall decorations, including butterflies, paintings and her family's pictures. A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Beth Sholom Home, 1600 John Rolfe Parkway, Richmond, with Rabbi Dennis Beck-Berman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beth Sholom Home, 1600 John Rolfe Parkway, Richmond, Va. 23233 or to Temple Brith Achim.
