Dear Ernie, I am only just now discovering that Jeanie died. I saw it in the Shepherd Center Bulletin. I am so very sorry for your loss! I met you and Jeanie with mutual friends, Vivien and Bruce Lowe, shortly after I moved here in 2006, and I was struck by the loving relationship that you two had. She was such a lovely person with a winning smile, and I am so sorry that she's gone.

My condolences to Jeanie's family and all who knew and loved her. I was sadness by the news of her death. I was one of Jeanie's students at Virginia Union many years ago. She inspired me, she cheered me on, she clapped for me when I performed, she told me when I did well but most importantly, she told me when I did wrong and helped me get back on the right track.

She and Dr. Hobbs ( who also recently passed away) were a great team as far as providing the best music education and training the university could offer to music students of the department. This was their mission and passion. Thank God for the life of Jeanie L. Castle.

Although we were separated by many miles and we only saw each other occasionally, I will always remember Jeanie. As children, she was a good friend and a willing co-conspirator in our little adventures. I will miss her intelligence, quick wit and ready smile. The world is a little darker now and a poorer place without her contributions in so many areas and for the loss of her wonderful talent.

To Jeanie's family--May God comfort you and give you abiding peace. Jeanie was the very first professor I met as a young music major at Virginia Union in the autumn of 1977. She was my inspiration for a career in higher education as a musicologist and part-time organist. I still have all the notes from her classes; I use them even now. I never encountered a finer educator, friend, and colleague than Jeanie; I shall miss her with all my heart.

Ernest, Martha, and all who knew Jeanie, I pray that God will heal your hearts and grant you the miracle to remember Jeanie with joy. I have fond memories of Jeanie when we were all young and my family would come from California to stay with Aunt Gay & Uncle Garland (Jeanie's grandparents). I wish I had seen her in our later years.
