Oscar Pitts Obituary

PITTS, Oscar E., formerly of Springfield, Va., died on September 13, 2008 at 7:03 a.m. at Beth Shalom Home in Richmond, Va., after a long illness with COPD and CHF. He was born on February 27, 1917 in Ft. Payne, Ala., the son of the late George Henry and Ida Belle Pitts. Mr. Pitts served his country with dignity and honor in the USMC during WWI, and was an active member of the John Lejune Masonic Lodge for 53 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Alexandria for 54 years and also worked at Lorton Reformatory for many years before retiring. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Juanita; his children Alan Pitts, Susan Pitts Crowe, and Linda Pitts Guthrie; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express its deep appreciation and thanks for the loving care provided by the staffs of Gayton Terrace, Brighton Gardens, Hanover Manor, and Beth Shalom Home, as well as Odyssey Healthcare Hospice. A memorial service will be held at Beth Shalom Home, 1600 John Rolfe Parkway, Richmond Va., on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 10 a.m. www.everlyfuneralhomes.com
