KIRBY, Betty Carr, age 81, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, departed this life September 17, 2008. A native of Roanoke, she was a lifelong homemaker, an avid bird watcher and nature lover, creative gardener, talented and self-taught musician, artist and accomplished seamstress from apparel to handmade quilts to intricate embroidery. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Thomas Eusebius Kirby Jr.; and four daughters, Carolyn Badraun and family of Jacksonville, Fla.; Nancy Kirby Schenk, husband, Robert W. Schenk and daughter, Mary Kathryn Schenk; Robin Kirby Nooney and son, Brian Patrick Nooney; and Mary Susan Kirby Warwick, husband, William R. Warwick and daughter, Emily Elizabeth Warwick; devoted friend, Alice Gilleece; and a host of dear friends. A memorial service officiated by friend and pastor, Dr. Fred Rose, will be held at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church, 7000 Park Ave., on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at noon. This was the very church where Tom and Betty were married in April 1958. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church, 7000 Park Ave., Richmond, Va. 23226. Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel is assisting the family.

To Mr. Kirby and his family,
Please accept our deepest sympathy in the loss of Mrs. Kirby. She was a wonderful neighbor, we remember her wit, her beautiful flowers (Mr. Kirby's pride and joy) and sharing stories about the "children", esp. Nancy, who taught several Yancey's at preschool. May God comfort you during this time.

Sincerely,

Al and Sue Yancey, Mary Virginia, Rebecca, Charles,& Hannah

Robin
I am so sorry for your loss. I never met your mother, but I remember you speaking of her when I kept Brian as a baby. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
