Naomi C. Brooking

BROOKING, Naomi C., 84, of Huntersville, N.C., previously of St. Stephens Church, Va., and Highland Springs, Va., passed away on Monday, September 29, 2008, at Harris Hospice Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, N.C., surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 26, 1924 in Richmond, Va., daughter of the late Charles W. and Ruth B. Carter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Brooking. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra B. Smith and husband, David, of Statesville, N.C., and Cathy B. Phillips and husband, Mike, of Huntersville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Erik K. Overby, Cpl. Thomas E. Proffitt III USMC, Tamatha E. Proffitt and Joseph W. Phillips; two stepgrandchildren, Nichole D. Smith and HN3 Brandon P. Smith, USN. Mrs. Brooking is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Parker of Rockville, Va.; brother, Winston Carter and wife, Ann, of Chesterfield, Va. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at B.W. White Funeral Home in Aylett, Va. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at St. Stephens Baptist Church in St. Stephens Church, Va.
