Ruby Moss Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Oct. 3 to Oct. 4, 2008.
MOSS, Ruby P., known to many as simply "Darlin," age 90, and a dear and faithful servant of God, traveled home to continue her service to Him on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, surrounded by her family, Bon Secours Hospice friends and caring staff members of the Laurels of Bon Air. A gift from our heavenly Father to her was a pain-free, comfortable departure from Earth, while comforted by just a small number of many people who loved her so much for the person she was, one who was a blessing and friend to so many who were affected by her love, grace and kindness. Ruby was preceded to her heavenly home by her mother and father, Agnes and Jim Parrish; sisters, Elizabeth Myrick, Mary Dawson, and Ethel Walker; brothers, Andrew and Eddie Parrish; and her husband, Thomas Earl Moss Sr. She is survived by her son, Thomas Earl "Tommy" Moss Jr. and his wife, Mary; grandchildren, Catherine M. "Katie" Tipton, along with her husband, Eric, and their soon-to-be daughter, Malory, and Kelly M. Steele and her husband, Patrick. Ruby had one great-grandchild, Cohen Thomas Steele, son of Kelly and Patrick. She also leaves several nieces and nephews who meant so much to her. "Darlin" will be greatly missed but never forgotten. She was an amazing, loving Christian on Earth, and thus will forever live in the hearts and minds of all who knew her. On the day she left us, God received into His kingdom a true leader for His great work. Family and friends will gather at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, on Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m., and services will take place on Monday, October 6, 2008, beginning at 11 a.m. at her lifelong house of worship, Calvary United Methodist Church on Williamsburg Road in Richmond, Virginia. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed or donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church or Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your Mother. She was a sweet, loving and generous person and will be a welcome addition to God's heavenly family. May God be with you during this difficult time, and rejoice, for you will eventually dwell in the house of the Lord and see your Parents and many friends again.

All our Moss/Funk family of California/Utah, etc have many fond memories of the visits to "Aunt Ruby" on Darbytown Road. I especially remember being "trapped" there during the Blizzard of 1996 (?) for 3 days and shoveling the long driveways then going back in the house for more great cooking by Aunt Ruby.
