Lois Hill Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Oct. 4, 2008.
HILL, Lois Loreita Rogers, of Chesterfield County, Va., passed away on September 30, 2008, surrounded by her children. Lois, known as "Rita" to her friends, was a wonderfully devoted mother and a treasured friend to those fortunate enough to know her. She protected, guided, and inspired her children with love and grace. She was a resident of Kinston, N.C., for the first 30 years of her life, where she married Arthur Thomas Hill, and they raised their four children. She returned to college along with her husband, where both were honored members of the Dean's List at Lenoir Community College. Ms. Hill was a talented artist as well, and continued to take classes throughout her life. Ms. Hill moved to Virginia in 1973 and continued raising her family along with her two miniature schnauzers, her youngest "children." Her dogs were among the beneficiaries of her great heart. She loved nature, protecting even the smallest creatures. She enjoyed helping her children study for college, learning along with them. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband on November 22, 2000; and her daughter, Dana Robin Hill-Lam on March 3, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Hillman of Chesterfield County; two sons, Arthur Thomas Hill of Cumberland County and Morgan Hill of Chesterfield County; two grandsons, Stephen Thomas Hill of Cumberland County and Benjamin Hill-Lam of Olney, Md.; two great-grandsons, Aiden Hill and Jacob Hill of Powhatan County. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 5, 2008, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Lois's family wishes to express their great thanks to the Infusion Team at Henrico Doctors' Hospital and many of the nurses there for their compassionate and professional treatment of Ms. Hill. She made many friends at Henrico; your kindness to her was deeply appreciated, especially Barbara, Joan, Terry, Nancy, Derrick, Deejay, and Kathy from the reception. The family thanks you for your special kindness to her.
