Edward Neal Obituary

NEAL, Edward Felgner Jr., age 80, died at home on Friday, October 3, 2008, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Richmond, Va., son of the late Dorothy Meek Brocken-brough, Edward Felgner Neal, and Austin Brockenbrough. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rebecca Michie Neal; two daughters, Lyle Neal Perkins of Philadelphia, Pa., and Virginia Neal of Miami Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren. Ed and Rebecca had one son, Austin Brockenbrough Neal, who died in 1965. He is also survived by two brothers, Austin Brockenbrough III of Richmond and Greaner Neal of Boston, Va. Ed attended St. Christopher's, Episcopal High School and the University of Virginia. His professional career took him from the tobacco market to banking. He served in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. A lifelong member of St. James's Episcopal Church, he served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher and Senior Warden at a difficult time in the life of the church. He was a member of The Country Club of Virginia, a good tennis player, and an enthusiastic golfer. Ed also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends. He led his life with dignity, treating all he met with respect, a noble man, a good husband, and father. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, at St. James's Episcopal Church. Burial will be private. Contributions in Ed's memory may be made to Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23226, or to St. James's Episcopal Church, 1205 W. Franklin St., Richmond, Va. 23220.
