HOLLAND, Joseph Vassar, 76, of Chesterfield County, passed away at home on October 4, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Holland was the former owner of Holland-Wilbert Vault Service. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bobby Carr Holland; three children, Deborah Holland Nester and her husband, Ken Nester, of Prince George County, James Andrew Holland and his wife, Kimberly S. Holland, of Bon Air and Margaret Ann Holland of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Craig C. Nester, Amanda R. Holland, Kendyl L. Nester, Katherine H. Nester, Kate E. Holland, Jacob A. Holland and Madeline B. Bailey; and his sister, Linda B. Adkins. Mr. Holland spent many happy hours with his friends at Burger King. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, October 10, at the Chesterfield Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Parkway. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the VCU Massey Cancer Center at Stony Point for Research, 9000 Stony Point Parkway, P.O. Box 980304, Richmond, Va. 23235, would be appreciated.

A gentleman always sporting a smile is how I will remember Joe. I worked with him through Balzer & Assoc. helping him with his home construction and little issues he had through the process. Though he didn't agree with the bureaucracy he always maintained his cool. Joe always found the best in everyone and always came telling a humorous story. I know through our conversations he had a great love for his wife, his family and his friends. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time of great loss for I know he touched the life of many...

i am very sorry for your loss, joe was a good man, everyone in my family always enjoyed his visits. joe loved a good joke and over the years we had plenty of them. he always made everyone laugh, and that smile. he will be greatly missed.

We have known Joe for quiet a number of years. I met Joe when I was introduced to him by my brother Tom Colley.
Bobby, Christy always called Joe, Mr. Bobby Holland, he taught her at Sunday School. He will be missed by all who knew him and if you need to talk, please calll me. He was a wonderful friend and a good person.
