To the Crist Family, I just heard of Doug's passing and would like to extend my most sincere condolences. I have had the pleasure of knowing Doug for the past ten years as a client. Our professional relationship quickly turned into a friendship. To be honest, Doug and I spent the majority of our meetings cracking jokes and telling stories. I will greatly miss him.

I have fond memories of growing up with Doug. He was always a light hearted fellow who had a warm smile and a ready laugh for every person he encountered. At our recent reunion, Doug quickly renewed our bonds of friendship demonstrating his affable nature I knew from my childhood was still very much a part of Doug.

Alan & Sarah,
I just learned of your dad's death today - thanks to Gloria McDonald. I can't tell you how sorry I am & how much I'm thinking of you right now. I've known your dad since our college days at UR. He was one of a kind - a man who made everyone smile & who always had a kind word. Meghan, Joan & I are wishing you and your mom solace and peace. Please know you are in the thoughts and prayers of many who care.

Crist Family:
You probably don't remember me but I was involved with the swim team snack bar as the kids grew up. I also worked at Brandermill Woods while The Crist's lived there and I remember so fondly how Doug would come to see his folks and stop and speak to all the residents who wanted to chat. He never seemed rushed but always took time for them and gave them his big smile.
That was a gift to those residents. They loved to see him coming thru the doors. I remember Cyn doing the same with them. God Bless you all during such a difficult time. I just had to share that special memory of your Dad with you. Take care.

Cyn,
Jack and I were so distressed and shocked this morning to read about the loss of Doug. It doesn't seem possible. We spent such an enjoyable evening with him in July at our class reunion. I was always fond of Doug and Jack has lost a childhood friend. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. We would have come if we had had more notice. Sincerely, Mary and Jack Broaddus

I was fortunate to work with Doug for the last 5 years, and it's going to be hard not having him around. He was that person that no matter what kind of day you were having, Doug could make you laugh and forget about your problems. He was my friend and I will miss him dearly. He and his family will always be in my prayers.

Doug's family, I am so sorry to hear the news. Doug was a fiend, a golfing buddy and a fellow Lion. Doug always made me laugh and I will always remember our vacation trip to Myrtle Beach in August 1993. We went out one day while there to play golf at one of the local golf courses. On the 13th hole I hit a ball to a blind pin. On the way up to the hole, I couldn't find my ball. Doug said he would he look on the green. He looked into the hole and there the ball was. A hole in one for me. Doug came over and grabbed me and lifted me up and swung me around like I was a teddy bear or something. Doug signed that golf card for me and today, as it was then, its one of my prize possessions. Everytime Doug and I got together after that he always remembered that day. Doug was a joy to be around and will forever be missed.

Alan and Sarah - I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was a great guy and it's sad that the Lord took him so early but he loved life and enjoyed all it had to offer. Cyn, I remember when I worked for Doug I thought he had such energy and zest for life; his passion for his work was something to admire. Though he will be missed we can take comfort in that he loved and enjoyed life, his work and his family and friends. You are all in my prayers.

I'm Don Black's daughter from Harrisonburg. We have done a lot of business with Doug thru Black Brothers over the years & I have personally trusted him with my life insurance needs as well. I had alot of respect for him & enjoyed all the time I was honored to spend with him when he made trips to Harrisonburg. He always popped in the office to see us when he had a chance. Without a doubt, he could bring a smile to my face. I will sure miss him. Doug & my father had a close relationship. He never forgot my Dad's birthday...always called him or sent cards. He was truly a very thoughtful & sincere man. My sympathy goes out to those he left behind. God Bless You.
