Richard Pond Obituary

POND, Richard Gibson, 77, of South Boston, Va., died October 9, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Ann Weatherford Pond of South Boston; his son, Peyton Gibson Pond of Reston, Va.; and two sisters, Marie Pond Jones of Siler City, N.C. and Barbara Pond Walker of Virginia Beach. Mr. Pond was a native of Siler City, N.C. and attended Elon college where he studied business administration and played on the football team. After college he worked for Dun & Bradstreet Inc. and later Virginia Electric & Power company. At Virginia Electric, which is now known as Dominion, he served in numerous executive and managerial positions over a period of 27 years. His work at Dominion included marketing, public relations, government affairs, and management of the Altavista, Va. district. From the time of his retirement from Dominion, he and his wife lived in South Boston, where he served one term on the Town Council in the early 1990's. Services for Mr. Pond will be Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home in South Boston. Graveside services will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be given to Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation, P.O. Box 1398, Brookneal, Va. 24528.
