Dorothy Kellum Welton

WELTON, Dorothy Kellum, 94, passed away on October 22, 2008. Mrs. Welton was the daughter of the late Bryant and Sudie Henderson Kellum. She was born in Onslow County, N.C. and was a longtime resident of Portsmouth, Va. prior to moving to Richmond, Va. in 1998. She was the widow of Collier Welton and is survived by her daughter, Mary Sue Sanderlin of Richmond; and son, Robert K. Welton and wife, Roberta of Atlanta; her grandchildren, Barry Sanderlin, Meredith Sanderlin Thrower and husband, Alex, Elaine Sanderlin Ryan and husband, Sean, all of Richmond, and Kellum D. Welton, of Atlanta. Also surviving are her brother, Herman L. Kellum, of Westminster, Calif. and several nieces and nephews. She was a lifelong member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church in Portsmouth. Before raising her family, she was a legal secretary and also worked at Fort Bragg and the North Carolina State Legislature. She loved spending time with her family, attending church activities, working in her garden, and playing bridge for many years with her dear friends in Portsmouth. Her family and friends will miss her warm smile and sweet nature. The family will receive friends Friday, October 24, at 10 a.m. at Loving Funeral Home, 3225 Academy Avenue, Portsmouth, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
