WILLIAMS, Florence Jane Morley Mosely, died at Landmark of Baton Rouge Nursing Facility on September 10, 2008 of natural causes at the age of 91. Florence was recognized as a great beauty and was charming, kind, witty, thoughtful, and beloved by family and friends. Florence was born June 8, 1917 in McGehee, Ark., the first child of Dean Richards and Gladys Romine Morley and she spent most of her early childhood in Rayville, La., growing up with two younger brothers, Kirk and William "Billy". She graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston, Texas and enrolled in Louisiana State University in 1935, with curriculum interests in music and education. She was an active member of the Chi Omega Sorority and after graduating from LSU in 1939, she married Dr. Charles Hodge Mosely, a graduate of LSU Medical School. Florence worked as a social worker in New Orleans while Dr. Mosely was completing his medical training at Charity Hospital. They had three children, Linda, Carole, and Dean and made their home in Baton Rouge, La. Florence and Charles were very active in social and community activities in Baton Rouge. They were members of the Baton Rouge Country Club and other social organizations. Florence was a member of the Junior League of Baton Rouge and the First Presbyterian Church and was an alumni advisor to Chi Omega Sorority. Dr. Mosely was a partner in the Baton Rouge Clinic from 1948 until his death in 1969. Dr. Mosely also served as president of the Louisiana State Medical Society and the East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society. Florence Jane became the head of Volunteer Services at Baton Rouge General Hospital after Dr. Mosely's death. In 1974, she married Mr. James L. Williams. Florence and Jim Williams moved to Richmond, Va., where the couple lived for 25 years. They were very active in church and volunteering activities for the River Road Presbyterian Church in Richmond. Mr. Williams died in 2005. Florence was devoted to her children, beloved family members, and many close friends. She was joyful, had a great love of life, and genuinely loved people. Florence was an avid Bridge player and loved soap operas, crossword puzzles, dancing, and music. She had great inner strength and courage, qualities which helped her survive bouts with two different cancers. She is survived by her children, Dr. Linda Hays Mosely, Carole Morley Mosely and Dean Meredith Mosely and wife, Rita; grandchildren, John Charles Lieux and wife, Lauri, Katherine Barrett Mosely, Russell Long Mosely and wife, Erin, Kirk Meredith Mosely, and Alexander Hays Mosely; four great-grandchildren, Landen Albin and Alaina Nicole Lieux, Jack Merrigan and Charles Long Mosely; sister-in-law, Margaret Mosely Duckworth; nephews, Douglas Meredith Clary, Albert Dale Clary and wife, Debbie Clary, Charles Mosely Clary and wife, Beverly, Thomas Duckworth and spouse, Annette, and Kirk Morley; and nieces, Berkeley Morley and Meta Kirk Morley. Florence was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, William Ely Morley and wife, Ann, and Kirk Romine Morley and wife, Berkeley; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lucille Mosely Clary and Albert Lloyd Clary Jr.; and her brothers-in-law, Dr. Jack Meredith Mosely and Thomas E. "Ted" Duckworth; and niece, Patti Dean Morley. A memorial service celebrating the life of Florence Jane Morley Mosely Williams will be held in Baton Rouge, La. at Greenoaks Memorial Park on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at 2 p.m.
