THOMAS, Garnette S. "Pete", 88, of Highland Springs, passed away Friday, October 31, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth V. Thomas; and sister, Lila Barden. He is survived by sons, Darrell L. Thomas and his wife, Patricia, of King William and Francis A. Thomas of Sandston; grandchildren, Joshua, Alexander, Ryan, Amy and Cody Thomas. Pete served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a former contract hauler for Richmond Newspapers and was an avid outdoorsman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, where his funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Interment Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 1108 E. Main St., #1600, Richmond, Va. 23219.
