DARDEN, Mr. Howard Kelford, age 70, of Bracey, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at home. He was a retired Commander, Assistant Chief of the Portsmouth Police Department after 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Elliott Darden of Bracey; and one son, Donnie Darden and wife, Nancy; two grandchildren, Ashley R. Darden and Kenneth L. Darden, all of Portsmouth. Also surviving is one brother, Edward James Darden of Bracey, Va. Mr. Darden was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Ephesus Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ephesus Baptist Church Building Fund, 10824 Highway 1, South Hill, Va. 23970 or American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, Va. 23060. Farrar Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
