Calvin Lawson Obituary

LAWSON, Calvin Coolidge Fancher, of Midlothian, Va., died on November 4, 2008 at his home. Native of New Jersey, Calvin was a local resident for 15 years. Calvin was a WWII veteran, 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, as a B-29 Navigator, 9th Bomb Group Tinian Island 1945. After the service, he graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering. Calvin later retired after 30 years of service with General Electric. Survivors are his loving wife of 58 years, Catherine Lawson; two daughters Deborah (Robert) McKinley of Midlothian, Va., and Carol Leedy of Newcastle, Del.; two sons, Clint (Marlene) Lawson of Houston, Texas, and Andy Lawson of Midlothian, Va.; six grandchildren, Robert Jr., Andy, Bryan, and Mark McKinley, Sean Leedy and Spencer Lawson; six stepgrandchildren, Zachary, Carter, Marie, Aline, Sarah, and Andrea Brown. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Fancher and Nellie Christian Lawson; and one sister, Cassie Lawson. Private family services will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 3961 Deep Rock Rd., Richmond, Va. 23235.

Dear Mrs. Lawson and family,
Mr. Lawson was an inspiration from a generation of great men. He and I shared some war stories as my uncle was a B-29 tail gunner. I feel blessed to have had even a short time with him. My deepest sympathies and greatest regards to you all. Thom Kirby
