Clark Martin Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 9, 2008.
MARTIN, Mr. Clark Ogden Jr., 56, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Richmond, passed into a new life November 1, 2008 following a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer, with his beloved and devoted bride of 29 years, Helen, at his side. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eve Martin. He also leaves to cherish his loving memory a daughter, Cassie, and son, Trey; his father, Clark Martin Sr., his brother, Craig Martin; and many other family members and friends. Clark was a dedicated and passionate firefighter, who served Fairfax County Fire Department for 30 years before retiring in 2002 as Deputy Fire Chief. At that time, he became Fire Chief for Monroe County, Fla. and remained in that role serving the Florida Keys until his retirement in 2006. During his illness, Clark was nothing less than remarkable, and he profoundly touched the lives of so many with his courage and inner strength. He will always be remembered for his smile, kindness, character, and his devotion and love for his family. A memorial service celebrating Clark's life will be held in Fairfax, Friday, December 5, 4 p.m., Burke Presbyterian Church, 5690 Oak Leather Dr., Burke, Va. with a reception following the service. Helen would like to thank the countless friends and firefighters for their faithful support during Clark's illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Clark's memory may be sent to the Firefighters' Fund of Fairfax County, P.O. Box 401, Fairfax, Va. 22038-0401; or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000, El Segundo, Calif. 90245; or Northeast Florida Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, Fla. 32257. Arrangements made by: A Dignified Alternative-Hatcher Cremations.
