Jane Campbell Obituary

CAMPBELL, Jane Robertson, of Richmond, widow of Edward Dunscomb Christian Campbell, sister of the late Dorothy Courtney Robertson Parrish, and daughter of the late Dorothy Courtney Robertson and Charles Blackford Robertson Jr., died on Sunday, November 9, 2008. She was a graduate of St. Catherine's School and attended Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts. Mrs. Campbell and her husband, Ned, wed in 1942 and were together more than 56 years. Mrs. Campbell taught nursery school for several years and served on the boards of the Junior League of Richmond, the Instructive Visiting Nurse Association and the Volunteer Service Bureau. She was a communicant of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and a member of the Junior League of Richmond, the Tuckahoe Woman's Club and the Country Club of Virginia. She is survived by her son, Dr. Edward D.C. Campbell Jr. and his wife, Patty Velebir Campbell; daughter, Mrs. Courtney Robertson Campbell Spencer; granddaughters, Ms. Jane Robertson Campbell Spencer and her partner, Ms. JoDee Lynn Winterhof, and Mrs. Dorothy Courtney Spencer Suskind and her husband, Gregory Douglas Suskind; and great-grandchildren, Henry McCaw Suskind, Charles Edward Suskind, Lux Christian Campbell Winterhof and William Sumpter Spencer Winterhof. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 13, at 1 p.m. in Hollywood Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Cedarfield Clubhouse. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Instructive Visiting Nurse Association, 5008 Monument Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230.

She was a charming, exceptional, and classy woman with a contagious spirit and a knack for telling fantastic stories and delivering a great one-liner.
