My younger brother Steve passed away 12 years ago on November 9, 2008. He was 55 years old. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him.
It was one of the hardest days of my life. They say, " Time Heals all Wounds ", but I am not sure that is true.
I love and miss you little brother,
Cary

Cary,
The loss of a sibling is one of the toughest loss' one can experience. I lost my brother seven years ago who was 59 at the time. He was suffering from agent orange related illness but his death was still unexpected. I thank God for the time I had with him. I feel your pain Cary.

Steve,
I added your Guest Book to Face Book to reach out to your friends and family to help to keep your memory alive for eternity.
I am looking forward to seeing you once again.

Cary

Hey Hiker, I often think of the home for lunch days during elementary school. We would walk to your house for you to check on your dog, Bug, then we would walk to Thompson's or the Deli by the Shell and get a bag of peanuts and a soft drink. Laugh with you again on your side some day.

Steve/Slim,

Today, Monday, September 30, 2013, would have been your 60th birthday.
You were taken to soon and I know I will see you again someday. Until then I will think of you every time I see a sliver of the moon in the night sky. The reasoning behind this is one of the parents in my after school program asked about you and when I looked in the night sky I saw a sliver of the moon. I think of you every time I look in the night sky and see the moon this way.
Your Big Brother,
Cary

Hey Slim,
I was sitting here tonight watching TV when I started to think about you.
I googled your name and low and behold it was November 9th, 2011, the 3rd anniversary of your death.
I still can't believe you left this world before me.
You will always be my little brother and I should have gone before you.
The Lord does work in mysterious ways.
I look forward to seeing you, mom, and dad again.
Love your brother,
Cary

“The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live.”
--Joan Borysenko

Steve was my little brother and although we had lost touch over the years, I am comforted by the life he had built for himself–a loving wife and children, good friends and a fulfilling career. The Saturday before he died, his daughter told me he’d spent the day in the yard and doing things around the house. It was a beautiful Fall day and I’m happy he was able to enjoy it. He was taken from us much too soon–but his memory will always be with us.

We all make excuses about what we could have done, or said, thinking that there is always tomorrow. But sometimes tomorrow never comes.

As we get older, the only things in life that are important are family and health.

I never told my brother I loved him. I hope he knows that I did.

Rest easy Slim.

Love,

Cary

To the Himes family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you through this time of unimaginable loss.
Mrs. Himes, I can't tell you how deeply moved I was to hear from you regarding Steve's passing. The depth of Steve's loss has touched my staff to a depth we cannot express. Steve kept us running in a seemless manner no matter what the nature of our situation entailed. His warm, friendly smile and his "Hey Dr. B." will be greatly missed and never forgotten. I only hope he can find a great place with tranquil waters to continue his favorite avocation, fishing!
With Love From All of Us,
Dr. Branda

CT Scan Area McGuire VAMC

November 12, 2008

It was an honor and a priviledge for us in the Radiology CT (Computerized Tomography) area at McGuire VAMC, Richmond, VA, to have worked with you for the past 10 years. Your knowledge and expertise in CT repair and maintenance always exceeded our expectations. We will always remember your smile, humor, and quick dry wit, which ALWAYS made us laugh and eased our daily stress.
Thank God you always answered our last minute beeper calls for help, and yes, lunch!!

Our nation's veterans should know what a knowledgeable and valuable asset you were to our Radiology Department and the Medical Center.Your were respected by all of the Radiologists and Technologists and you will forever be in our memories. We realize you have now answered an "On-Call Page" to a higher being, who needs you more than we do.

You were loved and will be missed...
Rest in peace...:"End-User"...

Dear Himes Family,

First, let me express my deepest condolences to your family. This was so unexpected and such a shock. I know first hand just how much Steve loved his family.
I had the privilege of being one of Steve's best friends. He was like a brother to me. We thought the same way, we liked doing the same things and at times it was uncanny how we both knew what each other was thinking. At work very rarely did you see one of us without the other. He was always willing to help me with whatever I needed. We were just so much alike. He will be missed by so many people. He was truly loved and admired at the VA. He was always fun, happy and kind to everyone he ever came in contact with. We especially enjoyed going to Redskins games and fishing together. We would talk and laugh and then wonder why the world just couldn't see things the way we did. I can't imagine not running around with him anymore. The VA will never be the same for me. Man this is one of the hardest things I have ever experienced. I will miss you good friend!
Love,

Steve will always be remembered as a wonderful, kindhearted man. He worked on our CT machine (Dr. Branda's) for a long time. It's so sad and unfortunate to hear about his passing. The family will be in my, and everyone at Dr. Branda's, thoughts and prayers. I am blessed to have had him in my life. We love and miss you Steve, and always will!!!!!

May God comfort each of you in this time of loss.
