Shoshana Hilleson Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 16, 2008.
HILLESON, Shoshana von Eberhardt Dindinger, 83, left this world to be with her heavenly Father, after a heroic battle with multiple myeloma, on November 10, 2008. She was born September 13, 1925, in Stuttgart, Germany to Adolf von Eberhardt Dindinger, the Duke von Eberhardt, former Adjutant General to Kaiser Wilhelm and famed architect of pre-war Berlin, and to Tatjana Wiczewski Dindinger, educator, of Russia. Shoshana Hillelson was a member of the German Olympic figure skating team in 1944 and was a concert pianist of international renown with Toscanini. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 60 years, Upton M. Hillelson of New York City, former president and CEO of the New England textile conglomerate Granite Mills, Inc. She also leaves her three children, Howard Hillelson of Atlanta, Dr. June Hillelson of Grand Rapids, Mich, and Ruth Hillelson, M.D.; and her beloved son-in-law, Terry L. Whipple, M.D. of Richmond, Va. Also to be remembered as loving family are, Col. Larry K. Whipple, USAF retired, his wife, Deb Whipple, and daughter, Austen, of Cocoa, Fla. She takes our hearts with her.

Dear Mr. Hillelson (Uppy),
I can't imagine the pain you must feel without Sho. I miss her so much. I think about her all the time. She was very close to my heart. The time that her and I shared together was beautiful. Her stories were the best. I loved being in her presence. She was truly a brave woman who faught with all her might with this battle. She is in a better place now. I miss her so much. I look at the pictures we took together all the time. I have so many fond memories of our times together. She was truly a remarkable woman and I will never ever be the same with her. She was my Sho Sho. For a whole year almost we were together like 2 peas in a pod. I love and miss her and you as well. Love Always, LaShaunda

Dear Ruthie,
The beautiful picture in the paper caught my eye, I didn't know that it was your mother until I got to the end of the brief biography. What a fascinating life she had and she must have been so proud of you. My sincere condolances go out to you and your family.

Ruthie and T.,
There are no words to describe the loss you must be feeling. Your sweet mother was a star in her lifetime and now she is at rest in a better place...probably playing the piano! How rich our lives have been for having known her! Please know that we cherish our memory of her! Next time we get together, we will raise our glasses high to Sho! Much love to you both.
