Eugene Harlan Hilleson, 87, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Kishwaukee Hospital.Born June 27, 1928, in Lee, the son of Lawrence and Bertha (Edwards) Hilleson, Gene married Marlene Lea Harper on December 5, 1980, in Lee.A graduate of Waterman High School, Gene was a veteran of the US Army, having served during Korean Conflict. He was the fourth generation to farm the family farm in Lee. Gene also was an electrician for Virgil Cook in DeKalb for more than 40 years. He was an avid golfer who made two holes in one. An avid reader, Gene loved history.He is survived by his wife, Marlene; daughter, Susan (Jeff) Linde of Elburn; sons, Stephen (Carole) Hilleson of Elva and Scott (Chris) Hilleson of Gilmore, California; grandchildren, Amber, Kristen, Brittany, Olivia and Matthew Eugene; six great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Arlene and Douglas Lane; sister, Virginia Jackson of DeKalb; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Prentice.The memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Bob Edwards of First Baptist Church, DeKalb, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Anderson Funeral Home.Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at First Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lee. Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Eugene H. Hilleson Memorial Fund, sent to the Hilleson Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O.
