Charles,
I hope the following poem will serve as a source of comfort in the years to come. I wrote it several years ago in memory of my father, but it can be applied to anyone.

TO A DECEASED LOVED ONE

Tis often I remember
How you touched my life with love;
The times we spent before you went
To join the Lord above.

Time has a way of mending
Broken hearts and drying tears;
Instead, it leaves fond memories
Of you throughout the years.

It comforts me to know
That you are now within God’s care;
In addition, I feel blessed
For the time that we did share.

I see death as a journey
To God’s kingdom, free from sin,
Someday I too, will take that trip
And be with you again.

I am so sorry to hear about your lost and I send my deepest condolences. Mrs. Mildred was the rock of the family and so wise. I hope that God keep you in this difficult time and know
"Earth has no sorrow that he can't heal".

To Charles Hackett Sr. In memory of those who died
We weep and walk away.
Tears run into swollen streams.
No trace of us remains.
Even those who grieve are gone,
And those that grieve who grieve,
And those whose lives are ravaged by
A frantic urge to be,

And those who wander silently
Among the empty rooms:
Immortality is theirs,
Though they must vanish, too.

We bear astonished witness to
The passage of the soul.
No bridge exists that can connect
Our passion to the whole.

Keep your hopes alive and know that she still lives within you

Dear Mr. Hackett, Dr. Hackett, Anita, Loretta, Dr. Eddleton and other close family members:

I hope that your precious memories of your wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, sister-law, mother-in-law, and cousin sustain each of you during her transition to her heavenly home. She was always professional in her demeanor, always a lady and she always expressed her love, pride and devotion to her family.

Saying goodbye is never easy, but with the belief and knowledge that you will see her again, rest in the comfort that she is in heaven and is now watching and protecting each of you.

May God continue to grant each of you peace so that your earthly tears will dry and your broken hearts heal.

Until you meet again, rejoice in knowing that her work, her love and her devotion are memories that are now forever branded on each of your hearts.

Dear Family Members, I called Dr. Bright to notify him of Mrs. Hackett's passing, and located him en route to Texas, in the Charlotte Airport. He asked me to convey his condolences, since he was not sure when he would be able to do so personally. Like me, he recalled her professionalism, warm nature and unfailing good humor. He said that she made his work at MCV much easier, and that her manner with the adolescent population they served was so helpful to many of his patients. He described Mrs. Hackett as one of the most efficient and dependable nurses he had ever encountered in his years of practice. I am pleased to be allowed to pass these sentiments on to you. To Charles Sr, Charles Jr and Anita,

When I must leave you
For a little while,
Please do not grieve
And shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you
Through the years,
But start out bravely
With a smile.
And for my sake
And in my name,
Live on and do
All the things the same.
Feed not your loneliness
On empty days,
But fill each waking hour
In useful ways.
Reach out your hand in comfort
And in cheer,
And I, in turn, will comfort you
And hold you near.
And never, never
Be afraid to die,
For I am waiting for you
In the sky.

Words cannot express my deepest sympathy. Your wife and mother will be deeply missed by all, especially me.

With love,

Rebecca (Lo)

I am sincerely sorry to learn of Mrs. Hackett's passing. I came to work at the MCV Adolescent Clinic in 1978 and was there for two years before leaving with Dr. George Bright when he began a private practice. Mrs. Hackett was a skilled professional as well as a compassionate and understanding person. I never recall seeing her when she was not smiling, calm and friendly. My memories of her are all good ones. The world was a better place for her presence. Libby Soffee
