It doesn't seem real, that's true. Perhaps because that bunch, PawPaw (Heggie), Granny, Lanie, Papa, and now Cotton...were SO full of life. They truly lived while they were here. I will never lose the sound of Cotton's laugh, and her tight hugs and ready smile. She will be missed in this life, but I have to agree, the thunder in Heaven when that bunch arrives will be in celebration! We must all be there to be a part of our Heavenly Hegamyer reunion! I miss her terribly, but she rests in Jesus, and leaves behind her a beautiful life full of witnessing for Jesus, and loving and encouraging her family and friends - I am irrevocably changed for having loved and known her, as are so many. Heaven can't come soon enough!

My aunt Cotton was the sweetest and most unselfish person in the world. One of her greatest desires was to show Jesus to everyone she met. She was an amazing mother and grandmother...and aunt. I am so glad that we spent so much time on the phone in the months before she died. I miss her terribly but it still doesn't seem real. Everytime I loose someone I love so much, like Cotton...it makes me long for Jesus to come, even more. I love you Cotton.

On November 29th, my life (just like so many of yours) was changed forever. I lost a prayer partner, a singing partner, a co-worker, and a fellow worker in the mission fields for Christ, when Donnie passed away. More than all of those things, I lost an incredible friend of twenty years. Everywhere that I turn there is something there that reminds me of her...a Christmas ornament she gave me, her favorite perfume on a store shelf, an empty piano bench in the corner of DUKE'S CHAPEL. All of those things invoke memories that bring both a tear and a smile. The tears say, "My friend, you are sorely missed and there is a hole in my heart and life that no one else will ever be able to fill." The smile says, "Donnie, you will be with me always, and will I take comfort in knowing that you are pain free and rejoicing with Jesus!"
She has been such an inspiration and source of strength to so many in their hours of need, I rejoice to know that now she has "fought a good fight" and won her eternal reward. She will never be forgotten! "Donnie, I love you!"

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Donnie's death. She had a voice like an angel and I will always remember the wonderful times we had singing with the Second Advent Singers. With deepest sympathy and prayers to Donnie's family,

Twenty years of friendship my life will never be the same, apart of me has gone but I know that she is forever in the arms of the one she Loved most. Her Lord and Savior. Donnie was my sister and my friend, I will never forget the memories we made. The talks, the laughter the silly things we did or said the songs we sang together, so farwell from this world as we know it but just for a while. One day we will be rejoined we will sing together with the all the angels in heaven. I LOVE YOU MY FRIEND.

I worked with Donnie at GAC for many years. She was a wonderful lady and will be missed by so many. Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

It is so hard to believe she is gone, and at the same time so wonderful to know she is where she spent her whole life looking forward to one day being. And just imagine the party going on right now -- Heggie, Evelyn, Elaine, Barry, Donnie - do you think Heaven can handle that bunch??? I expect to hear loud claps of thunder and when I do, I will know it is the five of them kicking up a ruckus and having one grand old time.
I will miss you Donnie, my sweet Cousin.

Donnie was an angel in disguise. Her loving kindness accepted my boys, Jon and Jake, into her family of children expressing nothing but love and laughter. Years pass and busyness invades, but the friendship made with Donnie was and will remain a constant. Her work for Christ here on earth may be over, but it has just begun in heaven. May the love she gave out so freely continue to spread from all of our lives she touched. She will never be forgotten! "Cotton" we love you and will miss you much.

We have lost another beloved cousin. Donnie was fun. Donnie was a big tease and full of mischief. Donnie could dispell any negative situation with her quick wit and humor. Donnie was special. We loved her and we will miss her. Alex, Vera Lee and family

Music, when soft voices die
Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory—
Odours, when sweet violets sicken,
Live within the sense they quicken.
Rose leaves, when the rose is dead,
Are heaped for the beloved's bed;
And so thy thoughts, when thou art gone,
Love itself shall slumber on.

Donnie has been a loving friend for many years. She became a member of our family with her love and caring for each of our family members. We have shared many things together. She will always be in our hearts and mind. May you know that you, as her family, are in our thoughts and prayers.
