Banks Family,

I wish for you, peace and comfort. Mrs. Banks was such an inspiration and positive spirit for me. I thank you for allowing me to share your wife, mother, and grandmother. Whenever, I got "frustrated" at work, I would talk with Mrs. Banks and she always made me laugh and most importantly she kept if real. However, What I most admire was her love and care for her family. She often talked about her husband, son, daughter in law and those grand daughters. She was so proud of her family and was such a great inspiration and guide for me as I tried to prepare my own two sons for successful lives. Although some years have passed since we worked together, I can still see her smile, feel her warmth and carry her positive spirit.

Be Blessed Always,

Kevin Canada

Medaris,
It's taken me awhile to get to this because I don't know if I can compartmentalize all that I want to say to you about your Mom and my second Mom, Mrs. Dorothy Banks. A beautiful woman, a beautiful spirit, the epitome of a wife to Mr. Banks and a Mom without peer to you. I'll never forget the times spent in the family room of your house with you and friends and your parents right there in the mix. Three things about your Mom that are at the top of my mind whenever I think about her: First, your Mom was an advocate and supporter of young black men in general who were trying to reach their potential and of you in particular and she verbalized her support to you and me and Al and Dave and Ron and all of us who spent any time in her presence. Her advocacy was empowering for me and I know that it had to be a strength for you.

Second, Mrs. Banks had the best sense of humor, I mean an amazing sense of humor that I looked forward to whenever we would get together. And if you really got her going she would hit you with something like this: "Aw, gone way from here Kevin Canada!" I just loved it, I loved it, I loved it! Nia's laughter is amazingly similar to your Mom's laughter and whenever I see her laugh, I see Mrs. Banks!

Lastly, your Mom was as sweet a person as there ever was on this planet! Always a kind word, always an offer to help, always a cheery greeting whether in person or on the phone. My Mom and my sisters always enjoyed the times when we would go to lunch together because your Mom always made them feel good and always had something nice to say. Janene, Jennifer and Danielle just adored Mrs. Banks and they too always looked forward to being in her presence. She was sweet beyond measure Mr. Moe!

I can't finish this without letting you know how much your Mom adored your children. Whenever I saw Mrs. Banks she would show me the latest pictures of Nia and India, tell me how they were doing in school, let me know the latest on their activities (Nia's performing arts and India's athletics), and relate any recent funny stories or episodes in their lives. She could talk forever about your girls!

I can't begin to tell you how much I am going to miss your Mom. Words can't relate my anguish in her no longer being here in a physical sense. Likewise, words can't relate how wonderfully blessed I have been for these past 30+ years to have known and been in the presence of Dorothy Banks, a real angel right here on earth. Mrs. Banks spirit will stay with me forever. I loved your Mom, and I loved your Dad, and I love you and your family. I'm here if you need me my brother. Peace.

Medaris, Bobette, and Family-

My deepest sympathies on the loss of your Dear Mother and my Great Friend and Supporter, Mrs. Dorothy Banks. I have valued the friendship and support of your family for over thirty years now. Mrs. Banks always had a smile and warm words for me. I've got such wonderful memories of the times and conversations had in the family room on Clifton Avenue. Their was always great love and fun in that room. Both your Parents were the highlight of my time in Richmond. Their friendship and care have enriched the lives of all of your friends who've come to know them. God Bless...

We cannot know what lies ahead from day to passing day,What changes God is planning in His wise and loving way. We cannot know the reasons He allows both joy and tears, why we must lose the precious ones we've cherished throught the years.We cannot know but we can trust, and faith can help us find our way to those tomorrows that will bring us peace of mind. To Medaris, Bobette and Family;

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. Our deepest condolences are with you as you grieve. Medaris, it is very hard to say good-bye but, God knew how Mrs. Banks needed to be free from any discomfort. We really missed seeing her at St. Paul's after Mass and in the neighborhood. She always had a smile and a hug for us, especially for our children whom she watched grow up. May God give each of you strength during this time.

Peace of Christ,
Mike, Sheri, Michelle, and Alan Brown
