Stephen Salmon Obituary

Published by Bliley's Funeral Home Central Chapel from Dec. 7 to Dec. 8, 2008.
SALMON, Stephen Anthony, 59, of Richmond, Va., passed away Friday, December 5, 2008 after a valiant fight with cancer. He was the son of the late James E. Salmon and Wilma Salmon. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and bride of 40 years, Joyce Olliff Salmon; two devoted daughters, Jennifer Melton (Ted) and Stephanie Weis (Daniel). He was "Poppo" to three precious grandchildren, Lola and Priscilla Weis and Cooper Melton. In addition, he is survived by one brother, Joel Lee Salmon of Tamarac, Fla. He was especially proud of his service in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1972. After a successful career as a real estate appraiser he joined Suntrust Mortgage as an appraisal analyst, where he loved his job and treasured his work family. He was a kind and gentle man, who never met a stranger. He could make anyone laugh during the worst of times, even his own. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends Monday (today), December 8, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Bliley's - Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., where funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 9, at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Branches Baptist Church, 3400 Broad Rock Rd., Richmond, Va. 23234.

Joyce,
I am so sorry to learn of Steve's passing, your loss and the battle you all fought. I only learned of this a short time back and didn't know how to get in touch with you. Actually, I learned of this from my daughter Rachael (a friend of your daughter Stephine) from Becky Walker (a friend of hers). I know God will keep you and your family close at hand and help you get through these difficult times. I look back at the old days with laughter and fond memories with you and Steve around Mechanicsiville. Rachael and I send our love and prayers. God bless you and your family. I hope our paths cross again.
Love, Oak

Dear Joyce and Family:
I was shocked to learn of Steve's passing. He was one of the nicest people I have ever known. I first got to know Steve through real estate. I was always glad when I knew Steve was appraising one of my properties. My heart goes out to you and your family. May the Lord Bless You and Keep You, Always.

Joyce--I will always remember growing up around the corner from you and steve when yall lived off of sunnyhill. Steve was always a nice person and always had something nice or funny to say. He always seemed like such a happy person-who never really let things in life get him down. He will be sorely missed by the whole family. God must have needed another angel on his team up there!! You, Stephanie and Jennifer are in our prayers!!!
We love you!!! Suzie, Bob, Beverly, and Jennifer Morris.

Uncle Steve loved to drive and listen to music really loud. Jenny would be singing and we were really happy, I didn't want to get out of the car. I will miss those times but I know he is behind the wheel of a beauty and rocking out!
I love you always

I am saddened by the loss of Steve; and also saddened at the short time I had to get to know him. When I first started with SunTrust he welcomed me into the STM family with jokes, questions, stories and cakes/Twinkies. We discovered we had similar Mechanicsville ties and shared funny memories. I even think he appraised my house once!

We extend our deepest sympathies in the loss of your husband/father/grandfather/friend. Regardless of whether you knew Steve forever or just a short while, you knew he was a wonderful man. He will be greatly missed by all.

Joyce, even though you do not know me I was very forturnate to have met your husband through SunTrust. After meeting Steve for just a few minutes I felt that I knew him for years. Everytime I saw him he always had a big smile on his face. I know the pain that you are going through along with your family. I lost my husband earlier this year. If there is anything that I can ever do for you please let me know.

Fondly,
Aspasia

Steve,

Having known you for only 2 years, I can attest that your abiding spirit and humor helped to disarm even the most hardened heart and brought joy to people regardless of their personal circumstances.

Your appraisal stories shared everyday at lunch, along with getting me signed "autographs" from my favorite actors after winning the Compass Award brought hearty laughs from not only me, but also others in the department. And who could forget all the times you offered everyone JJ's candy, talked about watching blue whales on the Discovery Channel, sky-dived in that Teletuby-like purple jump suit, or jammed-out to your favorite bands on your ipod shuffle.

What is more important than anything though is that your spirit has left an indelible imprint on the lives of everyone who came into your path. My promise is that I will continue telling those stories (I think this will make a great movie-as you often teased me for saying), so that your legacy and spirit will continue blessing others.
