I was so very saddened to hear of Phil's death! For those of us remaining behind him, it was much too early. His creative and beautiful signs, shown all over Ashland, always make me smile, as did Phil. I remember telling the owners of a real estate company in Kilmarnock about him, and they also commissioned him to paint their beautiful sign. I was so thrilled when I discovered and bought the "Formost Caboose" 20/200 print that he had done. It hung in my office and now in my home. It will always make me remember, with a smile, this charming and creative man. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and close friends.

Dear Shirely, Sandi & Family:
Phil was such a sweet guy. I remember when Rial and I were dating we went to a party at Shirley and Tommy's house. Tommy told Phil to dance with me (I'm sure to make me feel at ease). I was only a few years oler than he and he wa so embarassed. Of course, he was the polite gentlemen and did what his Dad asked him to do nonetheless. Besides his talent I will always admire Phil for living his life as he wanted. He didn't put on 'airs' or act like something he wasn't. He was loved so much by so many. I can just see him and Tommy now.
Rial loved him so and was more like a big brother than an uncle. He certainly left his mark on the world and those lucky enough to have known him closely were indeed lucky! Love to Shirley, Sandy and Suzy who made his last days as comfortable as possible and made sure he knew that they were present and that they loved him. Hold on to those memories!
Love,
Judy Rial Lee

Hey Bud,
You have always been more like a brother to me. We have been best friends since 6th grade, always kept up with each other and never apart. We have always been there for each other through good times and bad. Some of the best memories of my life was spend with you.Hard for me to believe that I just can't pick up the phone or take a short ride to North Snead Street to see or talk to you. When I am listening to the tunes of the 60's or 70's who am I going to call when I can't remember the name of the group.God has truly got a good man and artist with him. Our thoughts and love are with Shirley(Mom),Sandi and Suzy. Christine and I will truly miss you. Best friends forever.

Hey Big Brother..I love you and I miss you very much. I am so glad you are free from pain and in such a wonderful place. You are a lucky man. So many people love you and are thinking of you and have prayed for you. You're so talented. God gave you such a marvelous gift. He chose you to paint the world and now you're painting the heavens. You have touched so many hearts on this earth and you live on through so many folks. I love hearing all the stories your friends tell about you. I love the memories you and I made together. They are now mine to keep in my heart until we are together again to make more! I'll take care of Tooey, so don't you fret about that. Love you SO much,
Little Sister

My heart is filled with sadness that you have left this world but I know that you are now without pain and that is good.

I have so many wonderful memories and gifts that you have given me. They said "His work is a legacy to his life" and that is so true. Do you remember the "Art Monkey" sign? I was telling Rusty about it and I laughed at the memory as we all did when you gave it to me. And, of course, every Christmas I think of you as I put your ornaments on my tree.

I will miss you terribly.

Phil was one of the frst people that Andy and I met when we came to Ashland. I will always remember him sitting at the end of the bar "in the center of the universe". The beauty and kindness that he brought to the world will be greatly missed.
I'm sure God has put him to work making signs up in heaven.

Phil, I called your mom really early this morning. The sky was so beautiful as I looked out my front window, which faces East. I told her you had already started painting in the sky!! It reminded me of your artistic talents and how God can use them in heaven.

I'm so proud to have one of your paintings (the caboose) decorating the wall in my den. I will always treasure it. I still marvel at the talent God gave you and how beautifully you used it.

I will miss you so much, and I am a little jealous that you're face to face with Jesus. What a blessing that God took you home and gave you freedom from pain!

I love you!

Phil was a couple of years older then most of us in the neighborhood. He taught us a lot! All of it seemed good at the time! And of course "The Contest” was always a reason to laugh a lot. It was a time we still talk about. What a gang of goofs. BK, TJ, Watkins, Joey, Kathy, Maria, Wayne, Clark Baby, Frankie, Charlie, Bucky and yours truly. I still miss it after all these years. We will always laugh about the great times we had.
Love and condolences to Shirley and Sandi and all who became close.

Dear Phil,
This morning we noticed you had painted a beautiful sunrise in the sky for us. I know God will use your talent for many wonderful things.

I had such fun baking cookies with you and everyone has enjoyed eating them.

We miss you so much but are so happy that you are free from pain and are with many loved ones and friends who have gone on before you. You leave many cherished memories for us to enjoy.

I love you, His Loving Mother, Tooey
