HANDY, Douglas MacArthur Sr., age 66, of Amelia, passed away on January 14, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, Douglas MacArthur "Butch" Handy Jr. of Amelia; brothers, Curtis Handy of Farmville, Aubrey Handy of Hampton, Dickie Handy of Amelia; sisters, Josephine Alston of Mechanicsville, Joan Hastings of Amelia, Jean Lewis of Blackstone and Rita Crawley of Rice. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 164090 Court St. Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 16, at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Rennie Memorial Cemetery.

butch and sandra. sorry for your loss. mr doug will be missed very much. i will also miss, spending time with the two of you on the weekend`s. i will alway`s keep the two of you in my heart and prayers.

Sandra and Butch, I was sorry to hear about Doug. I know he has been sick for quite a while, but now he is at peace. As you know, I worked with him at GBC for about 15 years and he was certainly highly thought of at work and I can remember the laughs we had and his sweet smile. I know there were many times when someone did not know what to do with a machine and he would be called to give his "diagnosis". He will be missed.
