Dear Al,
Well, we have made the one year mark. One year today since you entered your final resting place and were enfolded in the arms of our heavenly father. Everyone says it gets easier and maybe it does for some but it hasn't gotten any easier for Shannon, Jamisyn or me. I won't go into details about how hard the holidays were but your birthday was extremely hard for all of us. We went to your favorite restaurant, O'Charley's, and the waitress brought Jamisyn cake from Pepaw because he wanted her to have it to celebrate his birthday. Well, the whole table went all to pieces and naturally everyone in the restaurant was looking at us. I know you have been watching over all of us this past year because we feel your presence in everything we do. We have all been talking to you as we pass you in the den keeping warm by the fireplace, telling you how much we miss you and how much we love you but it's just not the same as you being here with us. You will forever be in our hearts and prayers and always know that we love you and cherish our memories of all the good times we had. The hardest year has passed and we want you to now rest in the arms of God and have peace. I love you more than you could possibly know Al and I always will.

Dearest Al,
It's been 6 months today that you went home to eternal peace and no more pain. The real pain is now with me in my heart. Although I have learned to become a little more independent, simply because I had no choice, it doesn't make it any easier to deal with day to day life. I have made some major decisions since you left but yet can't make the simplest ones. Jamisyn and I spent the week of the 4th of July at the river like we have done for the past 3 to 4 years but it just wasn't the same. She had fun in the water and playing but I just sat around and stared at the empty rooms. Didn't have our usual 4th cook out because my heart wasn't in it. Just fixed a meal in the kitchen, which you would have loved because it was your favorite eye of round roast, and the 5 of us ate a quiet meal. Shannon did fireworks in your place and the kids enjoyed that but that wasn't the same either. You and Danny were supposed to do those. Guess you can tell I am doing a lot of remembering, especially as each holiday comes, but I miss you so much, think about you constantly and wish you were here with me. Always know how very much I love you and miss you. You are always in my heart.

We were so sorry to learn of Al's death over this weekend at the river. We had no idea and are sorry that we did not offer our condolences earlier. We will always remember Al driving around at the river in his golf cart, looking so relaxed. His presence will be missed there. Please know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Dear Al,
It's been 3 months today since you left us. I have been watching the clock all day and reliving that day over and over in my mind. It was so hard then and it's just as hard now. Today is Easter and it's the first holiday I have had without you. It has been so hard. People say it gets easier, but so far it hasn't. The kids came over and hunted Easter eggs and we said a special prayer for you at dinner. Shannon, Jamisyn and I cried because you were only here with us in spirit. We all miss you so much. Shannon wanted to stay with me but I told her I needed time alone. I needed to talk to you. I miss you so much I can hardly stand it. Not a day goes by I don't think about you and what we had together and I'm just not ready to give that up. Next week-end is Jamisyn's birthday and you won't be here for that, only in spirit. She talks about you all the time and says she knows you are watching out for her. I know that, too. Always know that I love you with all my heart and wish you a Happy Easter. God is taking care of you now in my place and I know you are okay. All my love.

My darling Al,
It's been one month today since you went to your eternal home. I miss you more and more as the days go by. There are things I want to tell you, talk to you about and share with you but all I have are our memories. There are days when I don't know whether I will make it through because everything I say and do reminds me of you. Your precious daughter, Shannon, and your precious granddaughter, Jamisyn, help me get through a lot of days but she misses you and cries for you almost daily. I know you are watching over us and know that we all love and miss you so much. I have your note that says "don't miss me too much, I'm doing okay," but that is small comfort when my heart is about to burst. I know you're in a better place and not suffering any more but that also is small comfort when I get home at night and you're not there. Always know that I love you with all my heart and always will.

I know how much your dad and pepaw meant to you. I know you both loved him very much and will miss him with all your hearts. Jamisyn was the best nurse he could have had and he loved it when she helped him. You both meant the world to him and always remember he loved you both so much and remember all the good times you had with him. He bonded with Jamisyn so quickly and it lasted for 6-1/2 years so don't ever forget how much he loved you.
