Audrey Weatherford Obituary

Published by Bliley's Funeral Home - Chippenham on Jan. 24, 2009.
WEATHERFORD, Audrey B., of Richmond, Va., went to be with her Lord on January 22, 2009, at the age of 81. Audrey was born on December 13, 1927. On October 19, 1938, she contracted polio and remained in Crippled Children's Hospital until the spring of 1940. She was told that she would never walk again. Due to her determination, she has walked ever since, until Post-Polio Syndrome took away that ability. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church for 42 years and sang in the choir for 40 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women at Providence, and she was a member of the Ivy Girls (ladies who worked at Thalhimer's downtown). She was a member of Manchester Chapter #53 Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John B. Weatherford; her parents, Willie Alvin Bell Sr. and Lola Orange Bell; one brother, Alvin Bell; one half-brother, George W. Davis; one stepbrother, Donald R. Ezzell; and a baby daughter, Carolyn Grace Weatherford. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Andra W. Warner and her husband, Scott; one dear grandson, Michael Scott "Pooter" Warner; a sister-in-law, Alice Bell; her lovely stepmother, Mildred E. Bell; and her wonderful caregiver and friend, Susan Leann Tuck and her family. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends at Bliley's-Chippenham Chapel on Saturday from 12 noon to 8 p.m., with an Eastern Star Memorial at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Providence United Methodist Church on Sunday at 3 p.m., with burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is Audrey's wish that contributions be made to Providence United Methodist Church and/or the Easter Seals for polio.
