BROOKS, Mattye Helen Johnson, 91, of Tappahannock, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 28, 2009. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Mattye Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Joseph Brooks. She is survived by her three children, Lloyd Brooks and Dorothy "Cookie" Elliott, both of Tappahannock, and William "Billy" Brooks of Richmond; six grandchildren, Michael Elliott, Danny Elliott, April Mundie, Chris Brooks, Heather Brooks and Karen Parker; eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2009, in the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock. Interment will follow in Essex Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Academy, 3899 Richmond Highway, Tappahannock, Va. 22560, or the Essex Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 1079, Tappahannock, Va. 22560.

Mattye requested that we all keep you in our prayers and we are. She wanted God's protection and love to surround her family and one day bring you all to be with her. She loved you all so much. I will miss talking to her. She was a great lady. May God comfort you in this time of sorrow.

Lloyd, Cookie, Billy and famiies,
We send you our love at this very difficult time of transition for your families. Mattye was such a wonderful blessing in our lives. No words could ever convey just how much she meant to me and to my mom and brothers and sisters. We loved her dearly and will always cherish the memories of our wonderful times spent with her. We find comfort in the fact that she didn't have to suffer and that she has finally graduated to her reward in heaven. So we celebrate her graduation while our hearts miss her beautiful life's spirit. Know that we are all there with you in thought and keep you in our prayers and we look forward to coming to Virginia soon to give you our love and hugs in person.
