Charles Martin Obituary

Published by Vincent Funeral Home - Providence Forge on Feb. 15, 2009.
MARTIN, Charles H. Jr., 59, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 12, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Martha; and their two sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie III and Denise Martin, of Glen Allen, and Chris and Aletia Martin, of Yorktown. Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan and her husband, Kent Piper. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Benjamin, Nancy and Chad; and by his parents, Charles and Jean Martin. Siblings who remain to cherish memories of their brother are sister, Laura Noel and Ralph Eccles; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Patsy Martin; sister and brother-in-law Beverley and George Crickenberger; and sister, Jacqueline Martin and James Stuart. Charlie was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the 192nd Fighter Wing of the Virginia Air National Guard. He retired in 2004 as a Chief Master Sergeant from the Virginia Air National Guard after 30 years of service. Charlie was a longtime member of Providence Forge Presbyterian Church, where he was the treasurer for 26 years and a deacon and elder. After retirement, he became an active member of the Providence Forge Ruritans. His love of the community was eclipsed only by the love for his family. Both loves will be long-remembered. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Va. A funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. tomorrow at Providence Forge Presbyterian Church, with burial following in Olivet Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Providence Forge Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 239, Providence Forge, Va. 23140. Friends are encouraged to visit www.vincentfh.com to share words of comfort with the family.

We offer our deepest sympathy. When tragedy strikes and takes the life of our loved ones, many cry out with great sorrow. Your tears are not unnoticed by the Creator of Life. Never was it his purpose for our human lives to be taken away. Although your deep pain will not easily disappear, prayer to God will bring comfort to you as you grieve. The Bible assures us God "is healing the broken hearted ones, and is binding up their painful spot." Psalm 147:3

Martha -
I can't put into words how much we all love you and appreciate what Charlie meant not only to us as a friend, but especially to the Stagehands. He will forever be missed and his memory cherished with not only every passing day, but with every production as we realize we will not have his hard work and support as has been the case since its founding. My heart goes to you and your family and please know we are always here for you, no matter what! Herman and the kids send their love as well!
