Walter Jones Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Feb. 19, 2009.
JONES, Walter Taylor, known by many as "T," suddenly ended his course in this life at Henrico Doctors' Hospital on February 15, 2009. He was born in Vance County, North Carolina, on March 7, 1929, to Brodie W. and Louanna Richardson Jones. Mr. Jones joined the Air Force National Guard after moving to Virginia and served on active duty during the Korean War. He was a member of the Boulevard Methodist Church choir where he and his wife, Arlene Lang Jones, met and later were married for 59 years. T and his wife moved to Mathews County, Va., in 1982, where they lived and retired until moving back to Varina in November 2008. T is survived by his wife, Arlene; two sons, Taylor D. Jones of Bradenton, Florida, and Brian D. Jones of Richmond; and three granddaughters, Rachel L. Jones of Bradenton and Jennifer L. and Stephanie K. Jones of Richmond. He was predeceased by his grandson, Taylor Ryan Jones of Bradenton. T was also blessed to have 46 nieces and nephews in Virginia and North Carolina. Mr. Jones retired from Schlage Lock Co., now a subsidiary of Ingersol Rand, in 1991 after 32 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Door and Hardware Institute as an AHC and was a past president of the Old Dominion Chapter of the DHI. T was dearly loved by his family, friends, and associates in the hardware business, his fellow singers in the choirs in which he participated, and most of all he was loved by his family. We will all sorely miss him. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., followed by a service at 4 p.m. in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Richmond Chapter.

I was saddened to learn of T's passing. He was a long time salesman to Pleasants, who featured the famous Schlage Locks that he sold. It was a pleasure to have known "T-Bird." Arlene, you and your family have our deepest sympathy. I regret that I will be unable to attend the service on Saturday, but you all will be in our thoughts and prayers.
