I am shocked to hear of Douglas' passing. He was a great friend to all that came in contact with him. I have known him approx. 30 years and can say I will always miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family, specially his girls. You never really get over lossing your Dad, It only gets better with time and remembering the happy moments. He always treated me with kindness, a smile, a laugh and a big hug. Stay close to family and talk about him alot and just let the pain ezzzzzzzz away slowly.
Love always

I LOVED DOUGLAS FOR TWENTY-NINE YEARS AND ALTHOUGH OUR TIME TOGETHER WAS WAY TO SHORT THEY WERE THE HAPPIEST OF MY LIFE. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY LOVE FOR NO ONE COULD EVER FILL YOU SHOES.

Chawanta, Leah, Nicole, and Fortune Family: I am so sorry for your loss and know that God is with you during this difficult time. I will pray that you will find the strength thru your love you have for each other, and from others who love your family, that in time your grief will subside and the good memories will take over the painful part in your hearts. Douglas will be remembered by many as being kind-hearted, and full of himself with his witty ways, especially his laughter. He was a dear friend to me, and I will never forget him. I thank God for the friendship, and the laughter we shared. My prayers are with you all. Love, Donna

During a project with Douglas and Gene Davis this past October, I had the priviledge to see a kind, compassionate man with a great sense of humor. Several years ago, I had met Jerry, Mark and Vanessa. My heart is with you Mrs Fortune as I know it is heavy with grief. Be still and know that Doug will always be with us. God bless you and your family.

To the Fortune Family,
Words cannot express the heaviness my heart feels at this time for the loss of Douglas. I can only say what you already know, and that is to continue to trust in our Heavenly Father to comfort and sustain you at this time. Turn your pain and suffering over to Him and He will carry you through. I love you all so very much.

You all know how much all of you were such a big part of my life as a young adult. I love all of you and Douglas will always hold a special place in my heart.
As I remember Dan's laugh everyday, I will now remember Douglas' laugh! I know that the two of them are together and sharing many memories -- and laughing! And I'm sure that Uncle Daniel will keep them straight!!
Both Jody and I want to offer our condolences. I can tell you that the pain will subside in time but, of course, you will never forget. You will remember all the good times and wish he were still here with us.
I would like to share a poem that I have on my desk with a picture of Dan beside it (along with Naomi Snowflake):
NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER
I give you this one thought to keep -
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone -
I am with you still - in each new dawn.
May God be with you and give you strength.
I love you all!
