Kenneth Albert Fortune passed away peacefully 11/3/2025, surrounded by his loving family at St. Vincent Ascension Hospital.
Kenneth, affectionately known as “Albert,” was born in Henderson, Ky to the late Roy Fortune Sr. and Lorene Fortune. He was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church at age 10. Albert played baseball for County High School. His skill was so impressive that he came close to playing professional baseball.
Albert was a very dedicated, hard worker. He began his career at Gamco in Henderson, KY. He relocated to Salt Lake City, UT, where he worked at Wonder Bread for 28 years. He then transitioned to Portland, OR, to finish his career at Franz Bakery before retiring early due to an injury.
He relocated to Evansville, IN, to be closer to his daughter and family. Despite becoming an amputee, it didn't stop him from coaching youth softball and participating in his grandchildren’s activities. Albert was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching Sunday football games and playing cards. He was a former DJ and loved listening to music.
Even after facing additional health challenges and becoming a double amputee, he was strong-willed and determined it would not keep him from enjoying life. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandson Greyson, especially their wheelchair rides to get pizza together.
Whether he was known as Kenneth, Albert, Unc, Daddy, Paw-Paw, or Bro, he will be profoundly missed.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Sr. & Lorene Fortune; sisters, Thelma Floyd, LueAnn McGuire, and Etta Hocker; and his brothers, Curtis Fletcher & Roy W. Fortune.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Cassandra Raine-Francis (Greg Francis) of Evansville, IN; John Thompkins (Tina) of Nashville, TN; Narin Swope of Wichita, KS; LaShaun Fortune of Ogden, UT; and Jaden Ball of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Deanna, Denae, Greyson, Jaylen, Amiyah, Dominick, Niko, Nia, Naomi, Noah, Nala, Nash, Harmony, Justice, and Evelynn. Albert’s surviving siblings include his brothers, Roy Fortune Jr. and Erbin Fortune; his twin sister, Kathleen Fortune; and his sisters, Esther Brown, Norma Fortune, and Pamela Fortune. He will also be remembered by his special nephew, William “Winky” Fortune; family friend, Delord Hester; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the STICU Unit at St. Vincent Ascension Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion shown to Albert in his final days.
Services will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Liberty Baptist Church, 701 Oak St., Evansville, IN 47713. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following at noon. Final resting place will be at Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, KY.
