Mrs. Cushing,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Atkinson told us about it at lunch and my heart went to my stomach. I knew how much you loved her and I know she is in a better place. When it is my time, I will give her the biggest hug from you and make sure to tell her how much you miss her. I hope that God helps you feel better.
Reaching Out
My heart is reaching out to you,
For what you’re going through;
I’m thinking of you frequently
And praying for you, too.
If there’s something I can do,
Anything at all,
Think of me thinking of you,
And don’t hesitate to call.

To Bill, Gale and Robbie:
So sorry for this loss. Words can't do the job adequately, but maybe this story will help a little. On Friday I was driving home from work on the beltway, and I was thinking of the news about Lindsey. Then I made my turn to the west on the Dulles toll road. As I got to where the sunset was visible, I saw the western sky bathed in an intense gold and yellow light, with clouds passing over the Sun. The light caused the clouds to look a dark purple color on the side facing me. This display of yellow and deep purple called to mind Bill's favorite team, LSU. I felt Lindsey had worked up this sunset up to say goodbye to her Dad, and to let one friend (me) feel that all was indeed fine with her. She rests with the angels now. Om Shanti Om.

My heart has been heavy with grief upon hearing of Lindsey's passing. She was an incredible inspiration to all of us. Whenever I felt like I could not do something, sometimes I would think about Lindsey fighting her cancer so bravely while going to school, and realize that what I was facing was nothing compared to that! She was nothing short of amazing and I know she will be greatly missed.

Dear Gale and Family,
Although I never met Lindsey, my heart breaks for your family as you go through this difficult time. You have always been so special to our family because of your incredible teaching ability and positive influence on Phil when he was a student of yours so many years ago.
I know you all have been fighting this battle along with Lindsey for a long time. I realize that any words I write will not relieve the sense of loss and pain you feel, but I hope that the following scripture will bring you comfort until the happy memories you hold of Lindsey replace the pain of losing her.
“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting comfort and hope which we don't deserve, comfort your hearts with all comfort, and help you in every good thing you say and do.” 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
Sadly and most sincerely,

Dear Gale and Bill,
I am so sorry to hear that Lindsey has left us. She was a remarkable young woman with unfailing courage and a happy spirit. I'll always remember the first time I saw her. She was riding in the seat of a grocery cart, a smiling baby with an infectious giggle on a shopping trip with her mom. You were so proud of her, Gale, and she continued to make you proud all through her years. Her time in this world was much too short, but take comfort now that she is in a place where there is no pain and suffering. I am sure the angels are smiling, and I am also sure that one of them is giggling too. With love.

Dear Bill and Gayle,
I was so sorry to hear the sad news about Lindsey. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I have a vivid memory of bumping into Bill years ago at Pizza Hut, where he had taken the 2 children for dinner. I don't think Chuck and I had any kids yet so yours must have been really little. They were adorable kids and so well behaved.
I hope the many fond memories you have of your time with Lindsey will sustain you during this difficult time.

Bill and Gale, this is a sadness for which there is no preparation. We share your sorrow and could never be ready for this day. Without words to comfort the hearts of Lindsey's family and friends, we cherish the fabulous memories Lindsey made during the short time we knew her. We marvel at her passion for all life had to offer, her ability to lift people's spirits, her wit, her laugh, her drive, her hope, her appreciation of music, her stories and her very special way of showing us love and happiness. We give gratitude for not being able to hold back a laugh or smile when we think of her. May Jesus continue to hold those who must now face life without Lindsey in the palm of His hand.

Dear family and friends of Lindsey,
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that you all are taking each day one at a time and continuing to show your love and support for each other. You are in our prayers. I didn't have the privilege of knowing Lindsey personally, but in reading about her, I can tell that she was a wonderful young lady to say the absolute least. I know that what gives me hope and comfort too is to remember the promise of Jesus to reunite us with our dead loved ones again in the near future on earth under his kingdom rule, when there will be no more pain, suffering, sickness, or death. I hope that gives you comfort as it does me. God bless you dear ones.

prayers and that the Lord will put his
arms around you and help you to find
comfort and peace. Again, we are so
sorry.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I feel honored to know all of you. Your grace and courage the past four years has been unwavering and inspirational. Lindsey was most certainly a "chip off the old block"...just as kind, gracious and beautiful as her Mom and Dad. I don't know how she did it, but she was always smiling. My favorite memory of Lindsey will be the year she lit the last Advent Candle at Bon Air UMC. Just as her light has shone upon us here on Earth, may her light shine down upon you from Heaven. Please know that you have many who will be loving you through the days ahead, including us. Take care friends.
