RILEY, Silas Daniel, 85, of Burkeville, died on Saturday, February 28, 2009. He was born on February 24, 1924 in Paducah, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Platte and Ruth C. Riley; and two brothers, Richard and Paul Thomas Riley. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Riley; his children, JoAnn Riley, Jeffrey A. Riley (Pam), and Jill Digby (Keith); brother, John Riley (Betty); and sisters, Jane Devers (Marvin), Jean Howard, and Ruth Ann Heath; sisters-in-law, Mary (Richard) Riley, and Jewell (Tom) Riley; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was a World War II veteran, later serving the Navy as a Seabee in Guam, Alaska, Okinawa and the Philippines. He retired in 1965 after 22 years in the Navy in Virginia Beach, Va. His second 20-year career was driving 18 wheelers for A.W. Temple in Chesapeake, Va. In 1987, Dan and Mary retired to Burkeville, Va. His favorite hobbies were gardening and tinkering with anything electrical or mechanical. He will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors. Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home.
