Ellen Campbell Dickson

DICKSON, Ellen Campbell, 84, of Richmond, widow of Jack Edwards Dickson, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009. Born in White Plains, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Harris W. Campbell. She is survived by three sons, Thomas C. Dickson, John S. Dickson and Roger W. Dickson; one daughter, Ellen C. Dickson; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harris W. Campbell Jr. and Robert Campbell. Mrs. Dickson graduated in 1946 from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va., where she was a member of the Mortar Board. A lifelong horse lover, she was involved in equestrian sports at Mary Washington. She formerly attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Richmond, where she taught Sunday School and worked with deaf children. She was a member of Christ Ascension Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild. Mrs. Dickson taught several years in Hanover and Henrico Public Schools. She was a longtime employee of Thalhimer's Westmoreland. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue. Interment will be in Edwards Cemetery, Slayden, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Virginia Foodbank or the Red Cross.
