Ruth Virginia Ponton

PONTON, Ruth Virginia, 100, of Madison, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009, in Autumn Care of Madison. She was born October 1, 1908 in Ontario, Va., and was the daughter of the late George Edwin Ponton and Sarah Brown Ponton. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Mary P. Bass, Alice B. Ponton, Hattie L. Ponton, and Willie P. Eddins; and three brothers, George Hamilton Ponton, Thomas Gregory Ponton and John Robert Ponton Sr. She is survived by nieces and nephew, Betty Gear, Louise Gear and John Robert Ponton; and other relatives and friends. Ms. Ponton was an elementary school teacher for many years and retired as the principal at Ficklin Elementary School in Alexandria, Va. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Ontario, and was a member of Madison Garden Club. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2009, at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison, with interment at 3 p.m. in Ashe Camp Memorial Cemetery, Keysville, Va.
