In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

LaShaun, we were introduce and became friends all at once, when I came in the shelter you told me to do what I got to do to make me happy, before I left we grew apart and I laugh because because I never would forget the person I met before with a smile on her face. You told me hang in there and do the right things in my life to make it. Then I surprise you by bringing you to my new apartment, the look of joy on your face and tears in your eyes of happiness for me. You said that you were proud of me in doing the right things in life. You said, " Sisters" be strong and love family and friends always. I am glad to have share a part of my life to you so go forward and rest in peace with no more pain. You will be truly missed by all that have met you.

As the days pass and you return to your normal routine, may you continue to lean and depend on God, family and friends and continue to keep LaShaun's spirit alive. I had the pleasure of meeting her as she spoke at a clergy forum I attended. Later, she was a facilitator for SISTA that I attened. I've always had great respect and love for her. May you continue to find strength as the days go on. Greater Life Ministries, Inc., South Boston, VA. - Pastor Paul W. Bruce

LaShaun; when I lost my son, you took the time to stop and offered your sympathy. We only met once, and we connected immediately and had a ball at Aaron's birthday party. Shayla has always said that she is bless to have two moms.

I love Aaron and Shayla deeply and a day will not go by without my confort for them; so...
Rest in peace LaShaun..............

I wish you the kind of peace and comfort that only God himself can bring during times like this. LaShaun was "my girl." She was my true Sista-friend. She loved me and I love her. I miss her tremendously!

Lashaun, although I didn't know you on a personal level, you indeed brightened by world. I remember most your disposition and your easy manner. I will always treasure that time. My prayers to your family.

LaShaun served on our Board of Directors at OAR of Richmond for the past several years and was a constant support for our clients. She was always thinking of ways to give back to her community. I personally thought of LaShaun as one of my heroes. All of us at OAR will miss her greatly and cherish our memories of her.

Teedie, if I had known that Wednesday would be the last time we shared a laugh I would have had so much more to say.

Even though we lost contact for a short time, you have been a part of my life for over 50 years. There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven. God placed you in my life for a season and now that season is over. I wonder why you had to go, but I already know the answer. I thank God for allowing us to reconnect and be reminiscent about life and what it means to have a best friend before he called you home.

My memories keep going on and on in my mind. We often spoke of life’s journeys; and realized that life is a sacred journey, from the first moment of our birth to the second of our last breathe. I will miss you and will always remember you from our childhood to our last laugh.

Shayla, if you whisper your mother’s name everyday she will always be in your heart and never leave your side. You were your mother’s delight and Aaron was her joy. I will keep you, Aaron, Nicky and Dushaun in my prayers.

My prayers are with the family. I did not have the pleasure of knowing LaShaun, but I am a friend of her brother Roderick (Nick). I can only imagine the loss that everyone who knew her is feeling I will keep everyone in my prayers during this difficult time.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

My heart felt condolences go to the family of LaShaun Evans. I worked with her at VDH and she was a ray of sunshine always bringing smiles and laughter to the office. She will be truly missed!!
