Harriett Meadowcroft Obituary

MEADOWCROFT, Harriett G., 78, of Highland Springs, and her beloved dog, Tinker Belle, passed away suddenly Friday, August 14, 2009. Mrs. Meadowcroft had worked as a stewardess for Alaskan Airlines out of Anchorage, Alaska, having been hired by Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker. She retired after 30 years of teaching in the Henrico County and Charles City school systems. Harriett enjoyed working in her flower garden and spending time pampering Tinker Belle. She is survived by her daughter, Heather Ann Wittel and her husband, Tom Wittel Jr.; sons, George A. Meadowcroft and wife, Regina McHugh, and William B. Meadowcroft and wife, Lesia. Also surviving are grandchildren, Amy Waybright, Travis and Jesse Mickle, Christopher and Carrington Meadowcroft, Alex and Jake Meadowcroft; great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Sarah and Haley and Daniel. The family will receive family and friends at the Chesterfield Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Pkwy., from 6 to 7 pm. Friday, August 21, with her memorial service to begin at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to The Richmond SPCA, 2519 Hermitage Rd., Richmond, Va. 23220.

Ms. Meadowcroft was my 2nd grade teacher at Baker Elementary in 80-81. I always remember her as being one of my favorite teachers. May peace be with you.

Hi my name is chrissey i work at Wawa on airport dr. Ms. Meadowcroft came in there about 3 times a day to get her and tinker bell a treat even sometimes lunch. She had a smile on her face everytime she was in there and so did tinkerbell. We are going to miss her so much and we are keeping your family in our prayers

I have just now received word concerning the death of your Mother and her dog Tinker Belle. I am so sorry, I know it was such a shock to all of you. My prayers are with all of you. Some day it will be alright, but never o.k.

I was in the graduating class of 1950, graduating with your uncle Buddy. I knew him better than Harriett, but I remember she alway had a smile for everyone.

Again, I pray God Bless all of you and I pray he will keep all of you in the palm of his hand.

I was sorry to hear of Harriett's passing. We grew up as neighbors in the late 40's.We were also classmates in high school and later in college at Florida State Univ. We commuted back and forth several times prior to our graduation from FSU. She was a kind and dear person, well thought of by all who knew her. May she rest in peace. Truly Eddie Norris

I met Harriet back in 2000 when I moved right across the street from her. I talked with her practically every day when she walked her dogs down the street. My heart hurts from the loss of her. I look across the street at her house expecting to see her at the roses she planted. I miss her so much. My prayers and thoughts are with the family.
