Cornelia Griffin Peterson

PETERSON, Cornelia Griffin, passed away Monday, August 17, 2009, after a four year battle with cancer. The date coincided with her 67th birthday. Survivors include her son, Lieutenant Colonel Erik Terryl Peterson, USMCR, of Austin, TX; her niece, Kimberly Perry Gill, of Clover, S.C.; and her children, Harley, Sierra, and Zachary; and the many, many friends, family and patients whom she took care of throughout the years. The family will receive visitors at Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home in Durham, N.C., from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009, in the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Peterson will be interred at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, beside her son Leif. Following interment, friends and family are invited to gather at the home of her former husband, Wayne Peterson, in Hillsborough, N.C., to remember and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to the Duke School of Nursing 512 S. Mangum Street, Suite 400, Durham, N.C., 27701, with whom Cornelia remained very active until the very end of her life. The Peterson family is under the care of Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home.
