Dear Mr. Cook,
Dr. Cole was a very kind and generous man. He loved your COCO beach house on 71st street and my brother has lived there for many years in the apartment. I can remember you both coming down on weekends and Dr. Cole outside to tend his flowers, then head over to the beach to relax. I was his neighbor, along with my brother. He will be greatly missed. He was such a nice person. I know you will miss him and our thoughts are with you.

Sincerely,

Peggy Hawkes & Mike Hawkes

We are saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Cole. He was a colleague during our early days of anesthesia in Richmond in the 1950s.We last saw him at the Greenbrier in a delightful encounter. He was a generous man and possessed great intelligence with many other admirable attributes, such as music. He shall be missed.

I am honored to have known Waverly as a friend for several years. His warmth, compassion and ready sense of humor were a model for us all. His generous philanthropy will have an impact for many years to come. As important, his common sense approach to life's challenges was a wonderful teaching tool for many of us. John, please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss.

I met Waverly and John over fifteen years ago while working with Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund. I spent a delightful evening with them in their home in the Fan. I was greatly impressed with their Southern charm, gracious manners, and genuine concern for equality for all. In the ensuing years, it was a pleasure to run into them at various community events and fundraisers. I greatly mourn Waverly's passing, and send my sincere condolences to John. I hope he will be comforted by the great memories of their wonderful life together.

When I first met Dr. Cole I was a freshman at Longwood. He was a kind and very cheerful person. Always in spirit and happy. I was sad to hear of his passing today during the Camerata Singers rehearsal. We all said we want to sing for the service, this was before we were told that we have to, but there was no need to tell us we have to, we wanted to. He gave us instruments and items that we need to provide to the students, faculty and school. We will truly miss him. God bless him

I have had the pleasure of knowing John and Waverly for neary 17 years. To hear of Waverlys passing was a total shock. John and Waverly have impacted my life more than anyone else i've ever come in contact with. They have been a blessing to my life as well as the lives my two sons. I am forever grateful. I pray that Gods peace will comfort John and Waverlys family during this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers goes out to the entire Cole family and friends. I remembered Dr. Cole as a great guy who enjoyed helping others. I met both, Dr. Cole and Dr. Cook at Westminster, while working as a waiter in college. They both seemed to take such a great interest in my future and college attended at the time, since we both went to VCU.

I'm truly sorry to hear about his death. I had such a fond interest in him as a well respected doctor, caring thoughts, and just him as an individual. He will truly be missed.
