Michael Lee Powell, 78, peacefully passed away September 17, 2025 in Orono, ME with Gayle (Beaulieu) his devoted wife of 40 years by his side after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Mike was born in Alexandria, VA the son of Russell Lee Powell and Lucia Eleanor (Lubinski) Powell.

He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was immediately employed by Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) of Newport News, VA. As a NNS executive, he also completed an EMBA (Executive Master's degree in Business Administration) at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA. He retired in February 2004 after an illustrious career serving in many engineering and leadership roles including SEAWOLF Ship Silencing, Director, Advanced Submarine Program and Research and Development, Director, Technology Development Virginia Advanced Shipbuilding and Carrier Integration Center (VASIC). Utilizing his expertise in nuclear engineering, he advised on the Jupiter Icy Moons Orbiter. He was a member of various professional organizations to include Chairman and founding member of the National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) Advanced Shipbuilding Enterprise (ASE) Executive Control Board and President of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME). Mike was the loving father of Mark, (Nancy) and Justin Lee, (Janna) Powell and step father of Tony Glasz, (Francie). He was also the loving grandfather of Alexis (Powell) De Salas, Cameron Glasz, Annabelle Powell, Ainsley Powell, Addison Brown, Noah Lee Powell and Carson Brown.

Aside from his love of family he enjoyed reading voraciously, boating, NASCAR, model car kit collecting, Disney World, hosting lobster feasts with his extended Maine family and the pursuit of the perfect crab cake. Family and friends are invited to a viewing Monday, September 22, from 4-6pm at Bowers Funeral Home, Lincoln, ME. A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23 at 1 pm with public viewing beginning at noon. In lieu of flowers, please love and hug your family and friends, be polite and kind to strangers, and donate to your favorite charity and especially the Alzheimer's Association.
