In the comfort of her own home, 93-year-old Joycie Prince Braxton of Franklin, Virginia, transitioned to her heavenly home on September 6, 2025.

She received her education in the Southampton County public school system and, upon graduating from high school, proceeded directly thereafter to attend North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics with high academic distinction. She furthered her education by enrolling in postgraduate courses at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Joyice married Paul David Braxton Jr, whom she met while attending North Carolina A&T State University, after graduating in 1954. After marriage, the devoted couple had two children, Paulette and Reginald.

As an adult, Joycie's parents and younger sister Lucille Prince preceded her in death, but strong and determined to succeed, Joycie continued to maintain the family's presence by sowing seeds of development and education in the minds of thousands of children.

She kept the family name alive by being a powerful presence across the state of Virginia.

Joyice first taught nursery school in New York before moving to Williamsburg to teach at Wee Wisdom kindergarten. She subsequently worked as an elementary school teacher in York County before becoming a daycare Director for the Williamsburg Community Action Agency at First Baptist Church. She later founded Braxton's Learning Centers, where she owned and operated up to four distinct locations around the state of Virginia with her daughter, Paulette. After retiring, Joyice served the Camptown Franklin community in various ways.

She was also preceded in death by her loving grandson-in-law, Corey D Williams, devoted husband of Rahsaanda Braxton-Williams.

Joycie is survived by her sister-in-law, Linda Walker (Wilbur Walker); her daughter, Paulette Canady (Chucky Canady); son, Reginald Braxton (Sylvia Braxton); granddaughter, ; step-grandsons, D'nard Edwards (Ruby Edwards) and Jahmil Edwards (Tanyce Edwards); great-granddaughter, Chasity Williams; and a host of step-great-grandchildren, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.

All services for Mrs. Braxton will be private. Please continue to keep the family in your prayers.
