William Thornton Francis

FRANCIS, Mr. William Thornton, of Valley Drive, South Boston, Va., died Sunday, August 30, 2009. He was born in Halifax County, Va., August 26, 1930, and was 79 years of age. He was the son of the late Thornton Francis and Salina Lillian "Lilly" Jordan Francis. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy F. Stephens and husband, Junior, of Halifax, Va.; two sons, William Thornton "Bill" Francis Jr. and wife, Edna, of Appomattox, Va., Daryl Wayne Francis and wife, Linda, of Chester, Va.; his former wife, Thelma Jennings Francis; two brothers, Lewis Francis of Winfall, Va., Gene Francis of Nathalie, Va.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
