Eleanor Persing Martin

MARTIN, Eleanor Persing, age 85, of Springfield, Va., died peacefully in her home Monday, August 31, 2009. Born in Washington, D.C. on October 11, 1923, and raised in Richmond, Va., Mrs. Martin was the wife of the late N.W. Martin, her husband of 53 years. Together with Mr. Martin, they owned N.W. Martin Co., Inc., where she worked as the secretary/ treasurer. Mrs. Martin was a longtime resident of Springfield and a charter member of Grace Presbyterian Church and past president of the Women of the Church. She was an active member of the Arlington Junior Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Country Club of Fairfax for 51 years. Mrs. Martin stayed active in her retirement with travel, gardening, bridge and cooking her famous muffins for family and friends. She is survived by her son, William Philip Martin (Betsy) of Millington, N.J.; three grandchildren, Constance Jean Martin, Daniel Philip Martin and Kelly Anne Martin; and her sister, Jean Kiefer of South Carolina. Interment will be Saturday, September 5, 1 p.m. at Maury Cemetery, Richmond.
