HAIRFIELD, Ivan John, 71, of Spotsylvania, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at his home. He began his career as a mechanic working for Lee Carter Garage, and went on to work for Silvey Chevrolet; in 1976 he opened Hairfields Garage, and he owned and worked there until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the FOE #4123. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing and driving his grandsons around on his four-wheeler. He loved spending time with his family, and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cecelia Baker Hairfield; daughters, Rina Hairfield-Stewart and her husband, James, and Heather Trent and her husband, Dwayne; grandsons, Wayne Edward Stewart, Jonathan Earl Trent and Dwayne Allan Trent Jr.; brothers, Melvin Hairfield and his wife, Delores, James Hairfield and his wife, Renee, Gene Hairfield and his wife, Cathy, Robert Hairfield and his wife, Ruth; sisters, Annie Dove and her husband, Harvey, Mary Burchell, Marie Brent, Linda Ballangie and her husband, Rick, Mabel Carr and her husband, Clarence, and Doris McWhirt; numerous nieces and nephews, and special people in his life, Kenny Wayne Brooks, Dee Smith, Harley Paige Smith, Katelyn McCroskey, Alexis Breeden and Clinton "Boone" Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Peatress and Callie Acors Hairfield; sister, Cora Lucente; and brother, Chancellor Hairfield. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 21, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Mullins & Thompson, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Tim West officiating. The family requests that donations be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401, Attn: Susan Young.
