I found out yesterday that my old elementary, middle school, and high school pal had passed away over a year and half ago and even though it's been a while it just brought a pain in heart to know he was gone. Me and Kirby were know as being the smallest and fastest little kids at Chamberlyne elementary. We formed a friend ship that only the two off us could understand, we went out seperate ways after high school but would see each other every know and then and just have a good laugh about the past. I joined body creations right after he sold the building but he would still come by from time to time to hang with the fellows. Kirby, you will truly be missed with me but will always be in my heart. My best wishes to his family. John "junior" Vaughan

I just found out today. Wow! What a loss... Kirby was one of my good friends. The guy helped me open my own gym out of the kindness of his heart and nothing else. I've since moved to California and lost contact, but his memory will remain forever.

Body Creations is where I firsr started my life into training & workn out. I watched Kirby build the existing gym from welding equpment together, from the old 1st place he first started at. I met him in 1991 & until 1995 I moved to Miami where I am now guru in Miami in the heailth & fitness & most notabally known for my martial arts school and training. But at Body Creations almost 20 years ago is where the weight liftn started for me & KIRBY would tell it to me straight
if I was doin something right or wrong & for that I thank him & will never forger all the backroom jokes we had over the years.

I can still see Kirby's mischievous smile. From the times we used to spend in the neighborhood (with Michelle, Lenny, Gary and Barry) to running into each other downtown after high school, Kirby always radiated personality and charm. Kirby's family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

It is with a very sad heart that I recently learned of Kirby's passing. I first met Kirby at Body Creations 15 years ago. We lost touch with each other for a few years then reconnected at Glen Allen Community Church. We've lost touch with each other and reconnected several times since then.
I will miss your presence my old friend. However, I find comfort in knowing that you are in a better place, with Jesus and at peace, and that one day we will be reconnected again. My thoughts and prayers go out to your loved ones.

It's been a long time since I have thought about how much Kirby meant to me as a kid and young adult. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends. Tonight at the dinner table I will tell a story about our childhood days. Growing up, Kirby and I were next door neighbors. I shadowed Kirby over those years. It seems like everyday there was a new adventure: hiking in the woods (behind the house), bike riding, building forts, trail work, football, racing Hotwheels, ice skating on a rink in his back yard, and the craziest stunt every! (jumping the creek on bikes). The activities changed as we got older but Kirby was always doing something cool and I wanted to do it too. Kirby even made me one of the coolest freshman at Henrico High; by asking me if I wanted a ride in his Mustang (in the back seat with deafening speakers).

I will shed many tears and may laugh just as much while thinking of all those years.

What a free spirit Kirby has always been! From the smile, to the laugh, to the lust for life and success. Over the years I would hear of his success and accomplishments and always say...that's Kirby Kay! I pray that your son will carry on the great qualities that made you who you were. To the family, we "all" send our heart felt sympathies.

When I first met Kirby, I was 5 years old. I was at the bus stop and he and some other kids were playing football. He came over and asked me if I wanted to play. Being only 5 and he was 9, I was a little scared. But I played and after that he always asked me to play something. Whether is was football, wiffleball, skateboarding down Ridge Road, riding bikes behind his house or the haunted trails in the woods. As I got older, we became closer and even though I was 4 years younger, he always accepted me as one of his friends, nicknaming me 'tater'. Kirby was and will always be the coolest kid I knew. I watched Kirby reach a lot of goals. Most of you remember Kirby the bodybuilder, but I remember Kirby as a small kid that transformed into this massive weightlifter. He always worked hard at whatever he was doing and he loved accomplishment. I can honestly say that day a long time ago when he asked me to play football, he became an idol to me. I will always remember Kirby as the coolest kid in the neighborhood. And I will never forget the great memories we had together. I will miss you my old friend. My sincere condolences to the entire family.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Kirby's passing and can only hope he is in a better place. It's been many years since I've seen him, but I'm grateful he was so good to my nephew, and this was an example from which we can all learn of being able to give to others even while dealing with personal problems, which we all must do. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

The image I can remember most about Kirby, is the same of what most of you remember. His laugh. Whether he was making a joke about you, or just telling you something crazy he had done the night before, you ALWAYS laughed along with him. While I haven't seen him in a few years, like most of you, it says a lot about him and the brief moment we had with him, that what we liked most about him was that he made us smile. Take care.

I am heartbroken about this news although it sounds like he had given his life to Jesus. Kirby was a great friend and a mentor to me. He was a co-worker that I admired due to his work ethic. We formed a strong friendship while working at PriceClub. We later became roommates for a few years, until I moved to NY. He always inspired me to better myself. I am saddened at this loss and will fly down for the funeral.
